Matara - Gurubebila coastal belt areas, affected due to debris of the damaged 'X Press Pearl' container ship a few days ago were cleaned up by troops of the 3 Gemunu Watch of the 613 Brigade under command to the 61 Division of the Security Force HQ - West as per directions of the Commander Security Forces-West, Major General Vikum Liyanage on the directions of General Shavendra Silva, Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army.

The foundation stone was laid at Adapana Hospital premises at Kamburupitiya in Matara District for construction of a new ward for COVID-19 infected pregnant mothers as an Intermediate Care Centre (ICC) in the event of any emergency after an increase of the victims.

Troops of 8 Sri Lanka Light Infantry under command to 14 Infantry Division of the Security Force Headquarters - West (SFHQ-West) promptly responded on 03 June and rescued a woman (59) and a physically-handicapped man of 65 years of age trapped in a house in general area of meerigama , Bookulagama after heavy rains caused havoc in the past 48 hours.
