Strengthening the government’s effort in combating the COVID-19 pandemic, with the directions of General Shavendra Silva, the Head of National Operation Centre for Prevention of COVID-19 Outbreak (NOCPCO), Chief of Defence Staff and the Commander of the Army, another vaccination drive was commenced under the close supervision of Major General D G S Senarathyapa RWP RSP ndu, Commander Security Forces (West), administering the first dose of the Synopharm for the youths of 20 to 30 years of age and second dose of the Synopharm for those who are above 60 years. The programme was commenced at the Panagoda Bodhirajaramaya army temple on 06th September 2021. Moreover, the vaccination center has administered around 6285 doses including 5189 first dose and 1096 second dose of Synopharm Vaccine .In line with the programme all the necessities had been properly arranged to the highest standard at the Army Temple premises. The vaccination is in operation with the direct supervision and instructions of the Commander SF – West. Army troops are rolling out their collective effort to facilitate a high level of service for the civilians in this demanding situation.
During the programme the Commander SF (West) visited the Panagoda Bodhirajarama temple premises and took time off to witness how the programme was smoothly in operation. Similarly, the Commander made a courtesy visit to Diyatha Uyana ,Viharamahadevi park and Verahara where the similar vaccination programmes were successfully functioning.
Army medical teams, headed by Colonel (Dr) Saveen Semage, Director, Directorate of Preventive Medicine and Mental Health Services in the Army and all other staff have thrown their full weight to keep up the pace of the COVID – 19 vaccination process. Further, Artillery Regimental Band too provided light music to make civilians enthusiastic and comfortable throughout the programme.
