A ONE DAY TRAINING PROGRAMME FOR OUTBOARD MOTOR OPERATORS OF SEARCH AND RESCUE TEAM

On the conceptual direction of the Commander Security Forces (West) Major D G S Senarath Yapa RWP RSP ndu , a special boat training course was designed in order to enhance the soldiers’ ability on handling Outboard Mortar (OBM) and its techniques. Similarly, with the participation of nineteen (1x18) troops from 2(V) SLLI, a short term course was conducted by the instructors of Special Boat Squadron - Special Force at Kalaniya river bank within the 2nd Battalion of Sri Lanka Light Infantry AOR from 20 May to 27 May 2021.

Subsequently, with the well-trained of boat navigators, the troops of 2(V) SLLI were benefited to provide humanitarian assistance to civil communities during the last monsoon on 21st June. Further, we were able to help the stranded people by rescuing lives, evacuating IDPs and providing foods with essential items to the flood effected communities in Kolonnawa and Kaduwela DS divisions with the collaboration of government authorities.

Afterwards, with widening horizons a one day training programme was conducted after few months in Kelaniya river bank on 07 Sep 2021 with the approval of AHQ and with the direction of the General Officer Commanding of the 14 Inf Div in order to uplift the soldiers confidence on handling of OBM and to maintained readiness of Search and Rescue Team. A programme was conducted with the close supervision by the Commanding Officer of 2 (V) SLLI Lt Col W M S Kumara and the guest participation of the commander of 144 Inf Bde Col K M V Kodituwakku.
