Cricket Tournament - 2023

As per the conceptual guidance of the Commander Security Forces (Jaffna), Major General Swarna Bothota, a cricket tournament was organized by 3rd Regiment Sri Lanka Signal Corps for the purpose of elevating cooperation among troops and stimulating them for sports. The final encounter was held on 27th February 2023 at the Sports Ground, Security Forces Headquarters (Jaffna).

553 Infantry Brigade Organize a Soft Ball Cricket Tournament to Enhance the Comradeship Within Soldiers

With the broad concept of a healthy soldier, a robust mentality physical fitness and to enhance the cohesion and comradeship among troops, a soft ball cricket tournament was organized for 553 Infantry brigade troops at brigade headquarters recently. On 10 and 11 February 2023, the softball cricket tournament was held by the 553 Infantry Brigade and under command elements with co-located Battalion Training School of the 55 Infantry Division. The event was organized under the guidance of Commander 553 Infantry Brigade, Colonel Janak Premathilake.

Security Forces (Jaffna) Commence NVQ Certificate Course for Other Ranks

Security Forces (Jaffna) with the motive of expanding knowledge on Information Technology (IT) among troops serving in Jaffna peninsula commenced NVQ Certificate Course on 16th February 2023 at Nenapahana Computer Training Centre – Kankasanthurai. On the direction and supervision of the Commander Security Forces (Jaffna), Major General Swarna Bothota the first phase of the certificate course was launched with the participation of 17 Other Ranks.

Inauguration of Beach Volleyball in Vadamarachchi (East) Organized y 553 Infantry Brigade at Talaiady Beach

With the overall concept of empowering and guiding future generation of the country, Sri Lanka Army initiated another step towards the qualitative improvement of the life style of youth in Jaffna Peninsula. In that, beach volleyball was introduced for the first time to the youth of the Vadamarachchi (East) area. It is a broad concept of the Commander 553 Infantry Brigade Colonel Janak Premathilake USP psc with the conceptual guidance of General Officer Commanding 55 Infantry Division Major General Prasanna Gunarathne RSP ndu psc IG. The programme was organized by 10 (V) Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment, 12 (V) Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment and 553 Infantry Brigade.

Photography Workshop at 55 Infantry Division

Mr. Nithya Silva recently wrapped off a two-day photography workshop at the Headquarters 55 Infantry Division in Jaffna, designed specifically for officers and other ranks into photography at the Security Forces Jaffna. The goal of the two-day tailor made programme was to improve participants' aiming, framing, and focusing abilities in order to create photographs of superior quality and effectiveness. The participants of the Security Forces Jaffna lacked the necessary understanding regarding photography, making it difficult for them to get good shots during events.

Indian Peace Keeping War Heroes Commemorated in Jaffna

Security Forces Headquarters (Jaffna) in collaboration with the office of Consul General of India to Sri Lanka in Jaffna, organized the event. Mr. Shri Raakesh Natraj and the Commander Security Forces (Jaffna), Major General Swarna Bothota RWP RSP USP psc paid tribute to the memory of fallen IPKF war heroes placing floral wreaths at the IPKF Monument during the brief and solemn ceremony.

Funeral Honours Team Provides Final Respect to Sergeant Sundaram Arulambalam of Thelippalei

A military funeral that took place on 25th January 2023 at the Keerimalei General Cemetery, saluted to one of the most dedicated Senior Non - Commissioned Officer, who joined to the 1st Battalion Sri Lanka Light Infantry from Jaffna peninsula. S/10439 Sergeant Sundaram Arulambalam, who was residing at Mawenkalladi, Thelippalei passed away last Monday 23rd February 2023, due to a sudden illness while he was enjoying his retirement from the Sri Lanka Army since 16th March 1980.
