In a significant and momentous event, Brigadier RPARP Rajapaksa RSP, who recently assumed the role of Deputy General Officer Commanding of the 55 Infantry Division, paid his initial visit to the 553 Infantry Brigade on 25 October 2023. Brigadier Saman Perera RSP, the Commander of the 553 Infantry Brigade, extended a warm welcome to Deputy GOC, emphasizing the importance of this visit in fostering unity and cohesion within the division.

Brigadier RPARP Rajapaksha RSP assumed duties as the Deputy General Officer Commanding,55 Infantry Division amid religious blessings and formalities on 19 October 2023.

51 Infantry Division has been conducting various programmes in order to create a good relationship between the Army and public.

In this regard, 51 Infantry Division organized a volleyball match between Yogapuram Girls volleyball team and 7Sri Lanka Army women corps volleyball team on 17 October 2023 at 51 Infantry Division Headquarters Cimic Park play ground at Jaffna. Accordingly, Yogapuram Girls Vollyball team won the match.

In a momentous occasion commemorating the 74th Anniversary of the Sri Lanka Army, the 553 Infantry Brigade celebrated the inauguration of their newly constructed Warrant Officers' and Sergeants' Mess on 14 October 2023. This significant development marks a substantial improvement for the Senior Non-Commissioned Officers of the brigade.The former mess was a semi-permanent structure, and there is a need to transform it into a permanent building with additional facilities. Brigadier Saman Perera RSP, the dedicated Commander of the 553 Infantry Brigade, recognizing the pressing need, took the initiative to improve the facilities. Under the wise guidance of Major General Nalin Jayawardena RSP ndc, the General Officer Commanding of the 55 Infantry Division, the transformation began.

A series of educational workshop under the theme on “Body scientific adaptation to exercise” was conducted from 13th - 15th October 2023 at Security Forces Headquarters (Jaffna) as per the conceptual guidance of the Commander Security Forces - Jaffna, Major General SRK Hettiarachchi RWP RSP VSV USP ndu psc and under the supervision of Brigadier General Staff, Brigadier KJNMPK Nawarathne RWP RSP ndu and Colonel General Staff, Colonel SDKWMMI Weliwita RWP RSP USP psc.

In coinciding with the 74th Anniversary of the Sri Lanka Army, as per the conceptual guidance of the Commander Security Forces Jaffna, Major General SRK Hettiarachchi RWP RSP VSV USP ndu psc, a “Bodhi Pooja” (meritorious act) was organized at Headquarters premises on 29th September 2023 with the participation of Brigadier General Staff, Brigadier KJNMPK Nawarathne RWP RSP, Staff Officers and other members of the headquarters staff. The pinkama was organized for the purpose of transferring merits on fallen war heroes and invoking blessings on serving Army personnel.

Officers and Other Ranks serving under 55 Infantry Division in Kilinochchi witnessed a valuable lecture on ‘Mines and Minerals Act’ on 26th September. It was organized by the 4 Military Intelligence Corps at the auditorium of 55 Infantry Division.

The most recently appointed Commander of the 513 Infantry Brigade, Colonel EMLP Ekanayake USP of the Sri Lanaka Sinha Regiment assumed duties as the 20th Commander of 513 Infantry Brigade on 13th September 2023.

Lieutenant Colonel Puneet Sushil, Assistant Defence Advisor to the High Commission of India paid a courtesy visit to Security Forces Headquarters (Jaffna) on 26th September 2023.

The General Officer Commanding of 55 Infantry Division, Major General NalinJayawardene RSP ndc, paid his maiden visit to the 553 Infantry Brigade at Visuwamadu on 05 September 2023. The visit was marked by a warm welcome from the Brigade Commander, Brigadier SamanPerera RSP, who provided a comprehensive briefing on the Brigade's area of responsibility and functions.
