  • Kankesanthurai Buddhist Temple Conducts Katina Pooja After 67 Years

    The Katina pooja of historical Tissa Raja Maha Vihara of Kankesanthurai, preceded by a series of religious observances, was held in high profile on 3rd November 2020 with participation of mahasangha and military personnel. The religious festival which initiated on the directives of Commander Security Forces (Jaffna), Major General Senarath Bandara, was well coordinated by Lieutenant Colonel Rasika Panditharathne Commanding Officer 5 Sri Lanka Army Service Corps under the supervision of Forward Maintenance area (North). The Katina pooja of the temple was held after a lapse of 67 years and that is the significance of this very event.

  • Army Helps to Mark A Birthdays at Quarantine Centre in Kopay

    The troops engaged in duties at Kopay quarantine centre hosted birthday celebrations of two persons came from Gampaha District and working in an Apparel Factory in Katunayake.

    The 47th birthday of Mrs.Nirmala Perera on 20 October 2020 and 27th birthday of Mr. Sudesh Priyadarshana on 22 October 2020 were celebrated privately without any gathering at the Kopay quarantine centre where relatives participated adopting social distancing best practices. The humanitarian gesture was facilitated by the troops of 15 Sri Lanka National Guard under 511Brigade and 51 Division.

    The troops engaged in duties at Elephant-pass quarantine centre hosted birthday celebrations of two persons came from Gampaha District who are relatives of the employees from Apparel Factory in Minuwangoda.

    The 27th birthday of Mr. M S M Rathnayaka on 20 October 2020 and 43rd birthday of Mrs. Niluka Pushpakumari on 21 October 2020 were celebrated privately without any gathering at the Elephant-pass quarantine centre where relatives participated adopting social distancing best practices. The humanitarian gesture was facilitated by troops of 12 Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment under 552 Brigade and 55 Division.

  • New Shelters for Deserving Families

    Troops under Security Forces (Jaffna) extended their co-operation to build shelters for Mrs. K. Sudakar of Alwai an Ex LTTE woman who served in Malathi Brigade from year 2002 to 2008 and Mrs. S Ranjan Nandani of Wallipuram, Jaffna an ordinary civilian. The Ex-LTTE woman who was injured due to the war, is a low- income widow with two children without a permanent house and therefore this benevolent act was carried out by Jaffna troops with the financial support made by Mr. Kumara Weerasooriya and his colleagues. The new houses were handed over to the deserving families by Major General Senerath Bandara, Commander Security Forces (Jaffna) on 19th October 2020 with essential home needs and appliances.

  • Security Forces Headquarters – Jaffna Vested a New Houses for a Needy Family

    Construction of a new house for a needy family at Thavasikulam in Kodikamam, was brought to completion by 7 Gajaba Regiment troops under the guidance of the Commander 522 Infantry Brigade and with the support of the General Officer Commanding 52 Infantry Division and its formal vesting ceremony took place on 19 October 2020 in the presence of Major General Senerath Bandara, Commander, Security Forces- Jaffna.

    The financial sponsorship was coordinated by Mr Kumar Weerasooriya with the guidance of former Commanders of the Security Forces in Jaffna who have been the driving force behind the construction of houses for underprivileged civilians in Jaffna. Including this house, 736 houses have been vested by Security Forces Headquarters-Jaffna and this new house was built for Mrs Manjula Ghaneshwaran, widow mother who was living with three children without proper shelter.

    The newly-constructed house is comprised of all facilities such as sitting area, bedrooms, kitchen etc and was supplied gifted with essential household items, and furniture along with its ceremonial opening. The key of the house was auspiciously handed over to the head of the household during this brief ceremony by Major General Senerath Bandara, Commander Security Forces- Jaffna who graced the occasion as the Chief Guest, following of Hindu religious observances and traditional warming rituals.

    Brigadier Kithsiri Liyanage, General Officer Commanding of 52 Infantry Division, Brigadier General Staff, Security Forces – Jaffna Brigadier Prasanna Ranawaka, Brigadier Janaka Wijayasiri, Commander 522 Infantry Brigade, Staff Officers 52 Division, Major Samantha Fernando, Commanding Officer 7 Gajaba Regiment, Mrs Usha Subalingam, Divisional secretary of Chavakachcheri and family members of the beneficiary along villages took part in the inaugural vesting ceremony.

  • Foundation Laid for a New House for a Deserving Family in Jaffna

    During a brief ceremony organized on 19 October 2020, Commander Security Forces - Jaffna Major General Senerath Bandara laid the foundation stone for a new house for Mrs. D Indra Rathish and her family in Uduvil, Jaffna.

    Mr. Kumara Weerasooriya will bear the financial costs of material for the construction work. The much needed manpower for the construction work was provided by the troops of 9 Sri Lanka Light Infantry under 511 Brigade with the Supervision of 51 Division.

    Religious Dignitaries, Major General Sumith Premalal, General Officer Commanding 51 Division, Brigadier General Staff, Security Forces – Jaffna Brigadier Prasanna Ranawaka, Colonel Rohitha Rathnayake, Commander 511 Brigade, Staff Officers 51 Division, Major Sisira Kumara, Commanding Officer 9 Sri Lanka Light Infantry, well wishers and Troops associated the Commander Security Forces - Jaffna during the ceremony.

    The function was organized according to the health guidelines issued by health authorities and Army Headquarters.

    In coincide with the Sri Lanka Army 71st Anniversary, 521 Infantry Brigade and 11th Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment provided lunch for the inmates at St Lucas Elders Home at Puththur, Jaffna on 5th October 2020.The programme was organized by the 521 Infantry Brigade on the direction of 52 Infantry Division.

    23rd Battalion the Gemunu Watch under 552 Brigade of 55 Division, belongs to Security Forces - Jaffna donated school accessories including stationery and school items to deserving students of the Muhamalai RCTM School on Friday 02 October 2020. This was carried out by Lieutenant Colonel Chaminda Dissanayake, the Commanding Officer of the 23rd Battalion the Gemunu Watch on the direction of Commander 552 Infantry Brigade Colonel Prabath Munipura to celebrate the World Children's Day with the under privileged children in Muhamalai Area.

    Commander 552 Brigade, Commanding Officer, Officers, Principle and Teachers of the school and a number of Military personnel were present during the event.
