A tree planting event was conducted in parallel to the International day of Free Public Transport, under the guidance of the Commander, Security Force - Jaffna, Major General Priyantha Perera RWP RSP ndu in coordination with Mr. Nishantha Peris, Chief Station Master and his staff of Kankesanthurai Railway Station at Kankasanthurei on Friday, 05 March 2021.
The troops of Forward Maintenances Area (North) organized this event with the participation of staff of Thalsevana Army Holiday Resort. More than 100 saplings such as Mee, Bullet-wood, Jamun, Kumbuk and Jack were planted during the event.
The event was launched in line with the concept "Thuru Mithuru Nawa Ratak" of the General Shavendra Silva WWV RWP RSP VSV USP ndc psc, Chief of the Defence Staff and Commander of the Army.
Commander, Forward Maintenances Area (North), Brigadier Wanditha Mahinkanda graced the occasion as the Chief Guest on the invitation of the Chief Station Master, Kankesanthurai Railway Station.
Senior Officers from Tri services and Police, Mr. VPN Weerakoon (Range Forest Officer - Jaffna), Mr. KASA Nanayakkara (District Traffic Inspector - Jaffna), Staff of Kankesanthurai Railway Station and troops of under Security Force Jaffna were present during the event.
