Batticaloa District Coordinating Committee for prevention of COVID - 19 pandemic presided by the GA Batticaloa, Mr. K Karunaharan, assembled at the District Secretariat Batticaloa on 14 June 2021 and lunched a donation programme of indispensable medical equipment. Director of Batticaloa Teaching Hospital, Major General Nalin Koswatte the General Officer Commanding 23 Infantry Division and Brigadier Vijitha Hettiarachchi the Commander 231 Infantry Brigade also attended the said event.
With the help of different benefactors living in Batticaloa district, Teaching Hospital Batticaloa was facilitated with indispensable medical equipment including a new PCR machine that has the capacity to complete 1000 number of tests per day to ensure the smooth functioning of Covid-19 prevention mechanism.
The Sewa Wanitha Branch of RHQ SLCMP, considering the living condition of an under privileged family in the general area of Girithale, a project was launched to erect a new shelter for them on the supervision of Lieutenant Colonel Rasadun Withanaarachchi - Commanding Officer - 2 SLCMP and under the guidance of the Commander Security Force (East) and Commander FMA(E).
On the directions of the General Officer Commanding of 23 Infantry Division, Major General Nalin Koswatte and with the supervision of the Commander 231 Infantry Brigade, Brigadier Vijitha Hettiarachchi, 231 Brigade troops provided assistance to renovate and expand the Covid -19 diagnostic laboratory established at the Teaching Hospital Batticaloa.
Following the concept of his Excellency the President to ban the use and import of chemical fertilizers, pesticides, and herbicides to promote the use of organic fertilizers in the country, the troops of 5 (V) SLAWC recently initiated a project to produce 160,000 kg of organic fertilizer on the directives of the Commander Security Force (East) Major General Channa Weerasuriya.
12 Sri Lanka National Guard (SLNG) troops of the of 232 Infantry Brigade under the 23 Infantry Division of the Security Force Headquarters – East (SFHQ-E), considering the humanitarian plight of pregnant women of low income groups supplied with dry rations and nutrients on Thursday (10) with the sponsorship of local donors.
Under the guidance of Commander 231 Infantry Brigade, Brigadier Vijitha Hettiarchchi, a programme was organized to distribute dry ration packs and lunch packs worth of Rs. 2500.00 (Each pack) among under privileged families of Muneikadu south at Kockadicholei in Batticaloa district on 11 June 2021.
