On Wednesday evening hours 09 March 2022, troops of the 8 Battalion Sri Lanka Light Infantry under command to the 141 Infantry Brigade rushed to mitigate a fast-spreading bush fire in the general area Keragala, Danaukanda forest reservation, under the supervision of the General Officer Commanding of the 14 Infantry Division and directions of the Commander Security Forces (West) Major General K Liyange RWP RSP ndu.

With the cooperation of the Divisional Secretariat – Beruwala, troops of 12 Field Engineer Regiment and 1 Sri Lanka Army Pioneer corps of the 612 Infantry Brigade under command to the 61 Infantry Division of the Security Forces Headquarters (West) cleaned the surrounding of the coastal belt area from Panadura to Beruwala covering highly-polluted coastal areas, littered with discarded wrappers, polythene, plastic bottles, empty beer cans, empty liquor bottles, etc. on 05 March 2022.

The bridge which linked the Pigeon Island and Matara, is known as one of the most famous bridges in Sri Lanka, has collapsed on 4 March 2022 evening. Subsequently, troops of 3 (v) Battalion of Gamunu watch, with the assistance of the SL Navy and the Disaster management centre, were immediately activated and rescued the people who were crossing the bridge.
