The dedicated and timely efforts of the troops of 6 Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment (6 SLSR) and 14 Sri Lanka National Guard (14 SLNG) under the 553 Infantry Brigade were formally recognized at a special appreciation ceremony held on 29 January 2026 at the Headquarters of the 553 Infantry Brigade.
The Kilinochchi District Secretariat organized the ceremony to recognize the exemplary service rendered by the troops during the Dithwah cyclone period from 27 November 2025 to 5 December 2025. Through effective coordination with civil authorities, the troops played a vital role in disaster management operations, ensuring the safety of civilians and minimizing damage across the district. Notably, their efforts helped prevent any deaths or serious injuries during the disaster.

With the Clean Sri Lanka program taking the lead, a social and awareness program conducted by the armed forces, has restored public access to the "Sankottai Thuduwa" (Sankottai Cape) in the Point Pedro area of Jaffna, which is the northernmost tip of Sri Lanka and which was damaged by the “Ditwah” cyclone. This was done according to the instructions of the Senior Officer, Brigadier Dhammika Jayaratne psc, Commander of the 521 Infantry Brigade and the renovation was coordinated by Major General Ravi Rathnasingham (Rtd).

However, it was identified that local and foreign tourists arriving at Point Pedro, the northernmost point of Sri Lanka, often face severe inconvenience due to the lack of public toilet facilities in the area.

With the aim of strengthening goodwill between the armed forces and civilians, a school equipment distribution program for the new school term of 2026 was carried out on 25 January 2026. This program, coordinated by the Commander of the 521 Infantry Brigade, Brigadier Dhammika Jayaratne, with the direction of the Chief Incumbent of Australia, Beric Shakyalamuni Sambuddha Viharaya, Shastra Vedi Rajakiya Pandita Ven. Digamadulla Wimalanananda Thero and with the financial sponsorship of the Sakya Youth Group. this included 138 students studying from Grade 1 to Grade 5 in the following 02 schools located in Ratthota and Aluthgama divisions (CP/Mathale/Baptiste Model Primary School, CP/Mathale/Navodaya Primary School) of the 641 Infantry Brigade area in the Matale District whom was affected by Dithva cyclone and stayed at Safety centres during disaster situation.

The troops of the 4th Battalion, Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment, under 521 Infantry Brigade of the 52 Infantry Division of the Security Forces Headquarters Jaffna, successfully conducted a community welfare programme at Kaleimagal Preschool at J/410 Pulloly (w) GN division under the patronage of the Commanding Officer 4th Battalion Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment, Major H M P K Bandara RSP USP psc. During the programme, lunch was provided to the preschool children, and school items were distributed. The event was held on 15 January 2026 from 1000 to 1130 hours, with the participation of two preschool teachers, twenty parents, and twenty students.
