Under the strategic vision and tactical direction of the General Officer Commanding, Major General MPNA Muthumala USP psc, the 51 Infantry Division successfully hosted a dynamic CrossFit Challenge Competition on 21 June 2025 at the CIMIC Park Playground in Kopay. This high-energy event was meticulously organized to enhance physical fitness, promote junior leadership, boost morale, and cultivate teamwork and comradeship among officers and other ranks of all under-command brigades and battalions.
As part of a broader commitment to instilling resilience, discipline, and unity, the event brought together nine competitive teams, each facing a rigorous sequence of physically demanding and mentally challenging activities. The competition served not only as a test of endurance and strength but also as a symbol of the fighting spirit and unwavering determination that define the soldiers of the Sri Lanka Army.
The event was graced by the General Officer Commanding himself, Major General MPNA Muthumala USP psc, as the Chief Guest, alongside the presence of Commander 511 Infantry Brigade, Commander 513 Infantry Brigade, and all Battalion Commanders. In his address, the Chief Guest commended the remarkable enthusiasm, discipline, and dedication demonstrated by the participating troops, emphasizing that such events contribute greatly to operational effectiveness and leadership development.
The competition reached its climax in a triumphant display of courage, unity, and sportsmanship, with the 14th Battalion, the Gajaba Regiment, being crowned Overall Champions. The 11th Battalion, Sri Lanka Light Infantry earned the Runners-up position, showcasing unwavering grit and strategic coordination throughout the contest.
A particularly noteworthy moment of the day was the recognition of Lance Corporal Maduranga WRA, representing the 11th Battalion, Sri Lanka Light Infantry, who was awarded the prestigious title of “Best All-Round Soldier” for his outstanding individual performance, determination, and exceptional military fitness. This accolade symbolizes the Army’s continued investment in individual excellence, which ultimately strengthens collective capability.
