A function was held at the Security Forces Headquarters (East) to foster the Sinhala and Tamil New Year at the auspicious time on 14 April 2013. Commander Security forces-(East) Maj Gen SAAL Perera RWP RSP USP ndu IG, Participated in the event where all Ranks of the Headquarters were present. The traditional oil lamp was lit by the Commander in keeping with traditional custom an invited all to enjoy the "Avurudhu" sweetmeats that included milk rice and kevum. He mingled with those present and wished them well during the year to come.

Maj Gen SAAL Perera RWP RSP USP ndu IG Commander Security Forces (East) made customary visit the Military Ward in General Hospital- Polonaruwa in keeping with the Sinhala and Hindu New Year on 16 April 2013 morning with gifts to the inmates.

Troops of 18 th Sinha Regiment Deployed in Kalavanchikudi Under, 231 Brigade in 23 Division area of Security Force (East), Conducted a "Food Testing Programme" along with Civil Police and Public Health Inspecters at Kalavanchikudi Town on 23 th April 2013 with an am to Improve the quality of food available in food outlets in the area.

Sri Lanka Army, 5th Regiment Sri Lanka Artillery located in Muthur under 224 Brigade of 22 Division in Security Forces (East) area, canducted a Bodi Puuja Programe at "Uthurugiri Viharaya" on 25 April 2013 with the participation of civilions and police officers in Muthur area.

In view of promoting goodwill and reconciliation amongst the soldiers and the civilians 233 Brigade in 23 Div under the Security Force Headquarters-(East) organized a Sinhala and Hindu New Year Festival at "Wakare" Divisional Secretariat Office play ground in Wakare on 19 April 2013 ,with the assistance of Dialog Plc branch Batticaloa. Traditional events such as Tug-of-War, Marathon, Cross Country Race, pillow-fights, cycle race, climbing the grease pole and crowning the New Year Queen drew much attraction of the villagers as well as soldiers.

Sri Lanka Army, 2 Gajaba Regiment in 221 Brigade located in Trincomalee under Security Forces (East) conducted a shramadhana campaign in Trincomalee beach on 21 April 2013 with the participation of the members of the Trincomalee municipal council.

As per the Concept of Commander Security Forces (East), In view of promoting goodwill and reconciliation amongst the soldiers and the civilians Task Force 3 under the Security Force Headquarters (East) organized a Sinhala and Hindu New Year Festival at "Dharmasangiri" play ground in Aliadiwembu on 21 April 2013.

"Thoppigala" which is also known as the "Baron$s Cap", the Last Bastion of "LTTE" in the Eastern Theatre, was a well fortified defense complex, with Heavily fortified bunker lines and Satellite Camps. The dominating feature in the ground area was this rocky hillock "Thoppigala".
