COMMANDER SF (EAST) UNVEILS ARMY-BUILT "PIRIVEN" ACCOMMODATION COMPLEX ALONG WITH THE OFFICE COMPLEX FOR SANGHA AT MANGALARAMAYA BATTICALOA

With the view to foster inter-ethnic and inter-religious coexistence and to generate a spirit of tolerance and understanding amongst different religious groups in the Eastern Province, Security Force Headquarters (East) has been facilitating for series of projects with the guidance of Commander Security Force (East), Major General Santhusitha Pananwala. Accordingly, the contribution of troops for the refurbishment of Mamanga Pillayar Kovil Batticaloa, renovation of the Theological Institute of Bishop's House Batticaloa and various religious places in the area could be highlighted.

SECURITY FORCE HEADQUARTERS - EAST JOINS ‘MAHOTSAVAM’ IN MAMANGAM PILLAIYAR KOVIL, BATTICALOA

As a part of the ongoing “Mahotsavam” (Annual Grand Festival) - 2018 of the Historic Mamangam Pillaiyar Kovil, Batticaloa, the Chariot Festival (Sapparam) was held with the gracious presence of the Commander Security Force (East), Major General Santhusitha Pananwala in the morning on Friday, 10 August 2018.

As the Buddhists celebrate the “Esala Full-Moon Poya Day” with great reverence, with religious festivals and processions throughout the country, villagers in Welikanda and surrounding villages at Polonnaruwa District joined with “Sri MahindaramaViharasthanaya,” (Buddhist Temple) to organize a programme giving prominence for yet another ritual of the Sri Lankan Buddhists.

24 DIVISION AND 3(V)SLAWC VOLLEYBALL TEAMS EMERGED CHAMPIONS IN INTER DIVISION VOLLEYBALL TOURNAMENT SF (EAST)

Introduction of volleyball goes back to 9 Feb 1895 and had been a part of the Summer Olympics for both men and women consistently since 1964. Sri Lanka Volleyball Federation (SLVF) is the main governing body of Volleyball in Sri Lanka, where volleyball is its national sport.

With the intention of finding potential players to represent Army and National teams, SF HQ (E) organized the Inter-Division Volleyball Championship - 2018 at 7 SLA premises and amidst a large gathering of sports-lovers, curtains final match of the tournament played on 26 July 2018.

PUBLIC EXPOSITION OF SACRED RELICS AT POLONNARUWA GAL VIHARAYA

In commemorating the arrival of Buddhism to Sri Lanka on Poson Full Moon Poya Day, the Security Force Headquarters (East) joined hands in organizing the meritorious public exposition of sacred relics at the Historic Gal Viharaya, with the blessings of Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Mahesh Senanayaka and under the guidance of Commander Security Force (East), Major General Santhusitha Pananwala and the Commander Forward Maintenance Area (East) Major General Manoj Mudannayaka.

FOUNDATION STONE LAYING FOR STUPA AT BUDDHIST CENTRE WELIKANDA

The Commander Security Force (East) Major General Santhusitha Pananwala laid the foundation stone for the construction of new Stupa at the Buddhist Centre Welikanda, amidst the chanting of Seth Pirith by Maha Sangha. The event was held under the guidance of the Chief Incumbent Buddhist Centre Welikanda, Ven. Delwita Mettalankara Thero on Tuesday (26) Colonel General Staff SFHQ (E), Colonel Chaminda Wijayaratne.
