With the view to foster inter-ethnic and inter-religious coexistence and to generate a spirit of tolerance and understanding amongst different religious groups in the Eastern Province, Security Force Headquarters (East) has been facilitating for series of projects with the guidance of Commander Security Force (East), Major General Santhusitha Pananwala. Accordingly, the contribution of troops for the refurbishment of Mamanga Pillayar Kovil Batticaloa, renovation of the Theological Institute of Bishop's House Batticaloa and various religious places in the area could be highlighted.
On Tuesday, 12 September, the Commander Security Force (East), Major General Santhusitha Pananwala took part in the opening of new 'Piriven' accommodation complex along with the office complex for Sangha at Sri Mangalaramaya Batticaloa, at the invitation of the Chief Incumbent, Ven. Ampitiye Sumanarathana Thero.
Fulfilling a long felt requirement to establish the Piriven Education in the Batticaloa district, the Commander auspiciously unveiled the commemoration plaques of 'Piriven' office complex which was constructed under the supervision of Ministry of Education and the 'Piriven' accommodation complex amidst the chanting of Seth Pirith by Sangha.
Under the guidance and supervision of Commander 231 Brigade, Brigadier Senarath Niwunhella, the troops of Headquarters 231 Brigade, 10 Battalion of Gajaba Regiment and 11 Battalion of Sinha Regiment threw their full weight behind these constructions by contributing their human capital. This immeasurable spiritual effort of the Sri Lanka Army was praised by the devotees those who present. The ceremony was concluded with the almsgiving (Dawal Danaya) for Sangha.
Chief Incumbent, Pulukunawa Raja Maha Viharaya Ven. Kirindigama Somarathana Thero, District Secretary Batticaloa Mr. M Udaya Kumar, Senior DIG Eastern Province Mr. Kapila Jayasekara, Mayor Batticaloa Mr. Thiagaraja Saravanapavan, Senior Officers and public representatives as well a large crowd of devotees were present in this event.
