After establishing the Sri Lanka Army Corps of Agriculture and Livestock on 4th January 2021
in order to supplement and promote the island’s food security programme this newly established Corps has started the green agriculture war in Sri Lanka.Simultaneously with the establishment of this Corps, the Sri Lanka Army Corps of Agriculture and Livestock Seva Vanitha Branch was started in 17 October 2021 with the guidance of Director General Financial Management (DGFM) of the Army and Colonel Commandant of Sri Lanka Army Corps of Agriculture & Livestock Major General WBSM Abeysekera RSP USP and under the tremendous leadership of the Hon. first President of Seva Vanitha Branch SLACAL Mrs. Shanthi Abeysekera.
Sri Lanka Army Corps of Agriculture and Livestock Seva Vanitha Branch is an association comprised with wives of serving officers and other rankers of Sri Lanka Army Corps of Agriculture and Livestock. It carries out multifaceted welfare activities with the vision of formulating alliances to uplift Welfare Measures for the next kin of our soldiers and taking steps to stimulate the morale of all serving personals and implementation of various welfare projects.
At present, there are different projects carried out by this branch. Such as produce of productions related to coconut fibers, selling of coconut midrib sticks, vegetables grown in protected houses and production of handicrafts using water hyacinth, palm tree leaves, coconut leaves and banana stem peels. Sri Lanka Army Corps of Agriculture and livestock Seva Vanitha Branch launched online marketing web page “Viruliya” in association with patpat.lk. In this context other ranker’s wives gets an opportunity to sell their products without any burden or cost via their web.
sssThis branch supposed to launched different projects in future such as production of clay products, Batik productions, expanding of herbal gardens in Army Farms throughout the country in association with Ayurveda Department of Sri Lanka and Dehydration project which aims dehydration of foods and export them to the world market to upgrade the living standard of our people. Donation of Kumbuk saplings to uplift the harmony among other regiments and donating of water filters for the improvement of welfare and of other rankers are the tasks carried out by Seva Vanitha Branch of Sri Lanka Army Corps of Agriculture and Livestock to contribute for our regiment as newly started branch.

Under the guidance of the Hon. President Seva Vanitha Branch SLACAL Mrs. Shanthi Abeysekera President and all the Members of the Corps of Agriculture Seva Vanitha Branch visited the National Institute of Mental Health - Mulleriyawa ward No.05(Ladies) on 23 October 2022 in order to inquire into the well being of the resident inmates.
The SVB members offered a glamorous music provided by the 2(V) SLACAL calypso band and at the meantime members of the Seva Vanitha Branch SLACAL also spent time interacting with the inmates.
There were altogether 40 patients who need much more care and attention. With the view to upgrade the mental and the physical robustness of them following events were conducted:
a. Providing of healthy and delicious lunch. b. Distributed following neccessary equipments.
*Walker for differently abled person *Ceiling Fans *Sanitary and daily needs
The President of Seva Vanitha Branch of Corps of Agriculture Mrs.Shanthi Abeysekera and members of Seva Vanitha Branch participated for the event distributing lunch to the inmates.
At the end of this event, President thanked all the members of Seva Vanitha Branch SLACAL for their valuable contribution and participation.

Seva Vanitha Branch Sri Lanka Army Corps of Agriculture and Livestock organized a simple farewell ceremony to Outgoing member of SVB SLACAL Mrs Kumudu Ekanayake at Regimental Officers’ Mess of 2 (V) Sri Lanka Light Infantry regiment on 23 October 2022.
Later on, President delivered the welcome note, emphasizing the invaluable service rendered by Mrs Kumudu Ekanayake to uplift the welfare activities of SVB SLACAL and extended best wishes for the outgoing member and her loving family for their future endeavors. Further SVB President Mrs. Shanthi Abeysekera presented a memento to appreciate her great service rendered to the Seva Vanitha Branch Corps of Agriculture and Livestock.
Mrs Kumudu Ekanayake thanked the President and staff of the SLACAL- SVB for the farewell ceremony and recalled the cooperation and the encouragement she received from all Seva Vanitha members with gratitude and highly appreciated those gestures.

2nd Annual General Meeting of Corps of Agriculture & Livestock Seva Vanitha Branch was held at RHQ SLA, Panagoda on 26th June 2022.Mrs. Shanthi Abeysekera the President of SVB SLACAL graced the occasion as the Chief Guest and she was warmly welcomed by the members of Seva Vanitha Branch SLACAL . AGM began with the singing of the Seva Vanitha anthem. Then Corps of Agriculture song and after lighting the traditional oil lamp one minutes silence was observed in memory of all fallen war heroes. Col Comdt Maj Gen WBSM Abeysekera RSP USP addressed the congregation and offered his praised and highlighted the future projects of Seva Vanitha Branch SLACAL. During the AGM, new office bearers were elected and proceedings were unfolded accordingly. A documentary video highlighting the welfare and social activities conducted in year 2021 was displayed. Further, tasks to be carried out in the current year were reviewed and proposed plan for the upcoming year was discussed. To mark this event Mrs. Shanthi Abeysekera the President of Seva Vanitha branch SLACAL distributed mango saplings to all the Seva Vanitha members who participated for the event. Finally delivering the speech by the President stressed the importance of maintaining commitments to the highest level to achieve desired results by the ladies who appointed as the office bearers as well as ordinary members. As a concept of the president of Corps of Agriculture and Livestock Seva Vanitha Branch, Mrs. Shanthi Abeysekera , a dry ration packs distribution Programme for the Lila Withana elderly home , was organized by the Corps of Agriculture Seva Vanitha Branch on 14 June 2022 at Lila Withana elderly home Warapalana,Yakkala prior to mark the Poson festival Year 2022. The event was organized, under the guidance of the Director General Financial Management (DGFM) of the Army and the Colonel Commandant of Sri Lanka Army Corps of Agriculture & Livestock Major General WBSM Abeysekera RSP USP . This noble event was sponsored by all battalions of Sri Lanka Army Corps of Agriculture and Livestock with the coordination of RHQ SLACAL.

A gathering of spouses of Officers and Other Ranks were joined the occasion and enjoyed the aesthetic flavour of the whole programme while Mrs. R P Kusumawathie delivered a keynote address on Art & handicrafts after presenting a series of videos featuring courageous women's self-creations in the Corps of Agriculture and Livestock.

Members of the Sri Lanka Army Corps of Agriculture and Livestock Seva Vanitha branch visited the Umandawa Maha Vihara Ashram on 18th November 2021. The event was graced by the President Seva Vanitha Branch of Sri Lanka Army Corps of Agriculture and Livestock Mrs. Shanthi Abeysekera and spouses of Officers and Other Ranks. A presentation on functions of Umandawa Maha Viharaya as well as organic vegetable cultivation is outlined.
