Fallen War Heroes of the Indian Peace Keeping Force (IPKF) who fought against LTTE terrorists during 1987 - 1990 in Sri Lanka were commemorated and their sacrifices were remembered at the Indian Peace Keeping Force Monument in Palaly on Saturday, 26 January 2025 to coincide with the Republic Day of India.

Major General Jagath Kodithuwakku RWP RSP ndu assumed duties as the Commander Security Force - Jaffna on Monday, 19 July 2019. A Guard of Honour was extended to the incoming Commander by the troops of the 11th Battalion Sri Lanka Light Infantry at the Security Force Headquarters Jaffna. He placed his signature in the first official document to mark assuming duties, amidst chanting of Seth Pirith in the presence of General Officers Commanding 51, 52 and 55 Infantry Divisions, Commander Forward Maintain Area (North) and Senior Staff Officers of Security Force Headquarters Jaffna.
Religious dignitaries of Hindu, Catholic and Islam were also presented during the taking over formalities and blessed him for his new appointment. He planted a sapling of Mango (Magnifera Indica) marking his appointment as the Commander Security Force Jaffna. Later, a new commander attended the commemoration of fallen War Heroes of the Armed Forces who served under Security Force Headquarters Jaffna and floral tribute was offered to those heroes at the Palaly War Heroes' Monument with the participation of Senior Officers and Other Ranks of the Security Force Headquarters (Jaffna). Later, he addressed the Division Commanders, Brigade Commanders, Staff Officers, Commanding Officers of affiliated battalions and troops of Security Force Headquarters Jaffna.

Major General Priyantha Perera who had been the Commander Security Force (Jaffna) for six months, relinquished the appointment on 17 July 2021 to assume duties as Chief of Staff of the Sri Lanka Army. During commanders speech offered his gratitude to All Ranks serving in respective formations for high standard of professionalism maintained during his tenure and committed service rendered to maintain a peaceful environment in Jaffna peninsula. On 18 July, he was extended a Guard of Honour at the Security Force Headquarters - Jaffna by the troops of 17th Battalion of Gemunu Watch. Then, he attend to wreath laying ceremony for fallen war heroes at Palaly War Heroes’monument.
Before he is being appointed as the Commander Security Force - Jaffna on 19 January 2021, Major General Priyantha Perera served as Commander Security Force Wanni. He has held many responsible Command, Staff and Instructor appointments in the Army and has followed a number of local and foreign courses during his military career.

HE Mr.Gopal Baglay, High Commissioner of India for Sri Lanka and entourage paid a visit to the Security Force Headquarters - Jaffna on Friday, 12 March 2021 during a visit to the peninsula. Major General Priyantha Perera, Commander Security Force-Jaffna welcomed them to the Security Force Headquarters - Jaffna.
During the cordial meeting, matters pertaining to the Civil - Military Coordination (CIMIC) and Reconciliation Process in the peninsula and the role of army in the process of sustainable peace and well-being of the community were also briefed by the Commander, Security Force - Jaffna. Further, he briefed the ongoing projects of construction of houses to the Indian delegation.
The High Commissioner, the Consul General of India in Jaffna, and First Secretary at High Commission of India in Sri Lanka and other officials expressed happiness over prevailing civil- military relations and underlined the importance of further strengthening of such bonds.

On the occasion of the 72nd Republic Day of India, Security Force Jaffna and Consulate General of India in Jaffna paid tributes in the memory of fallen heroes of the 10th Para Commando Regiment of Indian Army who sacrificed their lives during the Indian Peace Keeping Force (IPKF) operation “Operation Pawan” in Jaffna between year 1987 and 1989. The commemoration ceremony was held at the Indian Peace Keeping Force (IPKF) monument in Palaly, Jaffna on Thursday, 26 January 2021.
The Consul General of India in Jaffna, Mr. S Balachandran together with the Commander Security Force - Jaffna, Major General Priyantha Perera RWP RSP ndu placed floral wreaths at the monument in honour of the fallen heroes of Indian Peace Keeping Force.
Senior Army Officers, Officials of the Consulate General of India in Jaffna and troops witnessed the commemoration.

Major General Priyantha Perera of the Gemunu Watch assumed office as the Commander, Security Force - Jaffna on Tuesday 19, January 2021 during a formal ceremony held at the Security Force Headquarters - Jaffna amid multi-religious observances and military formalities. The military formalities commenced with paying tributes to War Heroes Monument at Palaly. On the arrival to the headquarters premises, Major General Priyantha Perera was accorded with a guard turn out and afterwards, he was honoured in a guard of honour parade extended by the troops belong to 12th Battalion The Gemunu Watch Battalion. Amidst blessings of clergy, he left his signature for a formal document to signify the taking over of new appointment.
