    Secretary to Ministry of Defence Major General (Retired) Kamal Gunarathne WWV RWP RSP USP ndc psc MPhil and several defence officials of Ministry of Defence paid a visit to Security Forces Headquarters (Jaffna) on 17th June 2020 and had an official meeting with the Tri-Forces Commanders, Security Force Commanders (Jaffna, Kilinochchi and Mullaitivu), Northern Naval Commander and Air Force Base Commander in Jaffna.

  • Fully Fledged Harmony Centre in Jaffna

    In view of promoting peace, reconciliation and wellbeing of the community in Jaffna peninsula, Army troops have launched a number of projects assisting the people uplifting their living standards and espousing social wellbeing. Initiating another chapter of Civil Military Cooperation, a ‘Harmony Centre’ was declared open in Kankesanthurai on 11 May 2020. This Civil-military Coordinating centre was established by Army troops on the conceptual direction of Major General Ruwan Wanigasooriya Commander Security Forces - Jaffna.

  • Another Group Leaves Jaffna After Quarantine

    A number of 220 civilians left Jaffna for their residences in Bandaranayake Mawatha, Colombo 12 on 10 May 2020, after Completion of two week long quarantine process at the Elephant pass and Viddaththapalei quarantine centres.

    The quarantine process was carried out by the medical and nursing staff assisted by troops under the supervision of General Officers Commanding 52 and 55 Divisions on the directions of Major General Ruwan Wanigasooriya, Commander Security Forces (Jaffna). The whole process was conducted under the guidelines of the National Operation Center for Prevention of COVID - 19 Outbreak (NOCPCO) headed by Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva, Head of the NOCPCO, Chief of the Defence Staff and Commander of the Army.

    Following a carefully conducted final medical screening procedures and awarding of quarantine certificates, the quarantines were directed to their residences by Army providing transport facilities with the assistance of Police to guide the convoy of 16 vehicles.

    Commander Security Forces Jaffna, General Officers Commanding 52 and 55 Divisions, Commander Forward Maintenance Area (North), several other officers and Troops witnessed the departure formalities.

  • 378 Civilians from Keselwaththa Area Leave Jaffna After Quarantine

    After completion of two week long quarantine process at the Viddaththapalei and Elephant pass quarantine centres a number of 378 civilians left Jaffna for their residences in Keselwaththa, Colombo on 09 May 2020.

    They were released after a carefully conducted final medical screening procedures and awarding of quarantine certificates. Army provided transport facilities with the assistance of Police to guide the convoy of 33 vehicles.

    The quarantine process was conducted by the troops of Security Forces Jaffna under the guidance of the National Operation Center for Prevention of COVID - 19 Outbreak (NOCPCO) headed by Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva, Head of the NOCPCO, Chief of the Defence Staff and Commander of the Army.

    Commander Security Forces Jaffna, General Officers Commanding 52 and 55 Divisions, several other officers and Troops witnessed the departure formalities.

  • The Secretary of Defence Visits Tri Forces and Police in Jaffna

    The Secretary to the Ministry of Defence Major General (Retired) Kamal Gunaratne WWV RWP RSP USP ndc psc MPhil flew to Jaffna on Friday17 April 2020 on an official visit to appreciate services rendered by Tri-forces and Police who are on high alert to prevent escalating pandemic in peninsula which is declared as a high risk area after COVID-19 patients were found.

    The Secretary to the Ministry of Defence addressing troops encouraged Tri-forces and Police to continue their commitment in support of the government’s effort to eradicate the COVID-19 pandemic. Further, he offered his best wishes on Sinhala and Tamil New Year to all member of Tri-forces, Police and Special Task Force, and urged them to continue their assistance to civil authorities and maintain essential services for the people living in Jaffna peninsula. The Secretary Defence paid a special tribute to members of health service such as Doctors, Nurses, Public Health Inspectors (PHI), etc for the valuable service they render in the fight against COVID - 19.

    Commander Sri Lanka Air Force, Chief of National Intelligence, Commander Security Forces (Jaffna), Commander Northern Naval Command, Senior Officers of Tri Forces, Police and Special Task Force and other ranks of Tri Forces and Police participated in the event which was conducted maintaining guide lines on prevention of COVID - 19.

  • The Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan Visits Security Forces Headquarters Jaffna

    H.E. M. Ashraf Haidari the Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan visited Security Forces Headquarters – Jaffna, and met the Commander Security Forces – Jaffna, Major General Ruwan Wanigasooriya on Tuesday, 10 March 2020.

    The delegation led by the Ambassador discussed subject areas of mutual interest. The Ambassador appreciated the Sri Lankan government’s efforts at post conflict reconciliation and nation building with particular focus on empowering the Northern Population. The Security Forces Commander briefed the Ambassador on current security situation, land release, demining, civil military coordination and other matters of concern pertaining to the Security Forces – Jaffna.

  • The Government Agent of Jaffna Pays Courtesy Call on Commander Security Forces - Jaffna

    The newly appointed District Secretary/Government Agent of Jaffna Mr. Kanapathipillai Maheshan paid a courtesy call on the Commander Security Forces Jaffna, Major General Ruwan Wanigasooriya on Tuesday, 18 February 2020.

    Commander Security Forces - Jaffna welcomed the Government Agent and briefed on the social welfare projects and assistance to civil community by the Army in Jaffna Peninsula. A number of Senior Army Officers were also present at the occasion.

    H.E. Ms. Trine Joranli Eskedal the Ambassador of Norway visited Security Forces Headquarters - Jaffna, and met the Commander Security Forces - Jaffna, Major General Ruwan Wanigasooriya on Wednesday 22 January 2020.

    The delegation led by the Ambassador discussed matters pertaining to the current issues of mutual interest including security situation in Jaffna peninsula, and the social welfare projects conducted by Security Forces - Jaffna. The Commander Security Forces – Jaffna presented a comprehensive briefing covering all salient points during the official discussion.
