  • Pirith Chanting Tran Arrives to Jaffna

    The Kavudumunna Raja Maha Viharaya, Dambadeniya along with Bosath Foundation of Bujjomuwa Railway Station organized the Pirith Chanting Train Journey ‘New Year of Prosperity’ form Beliatta to Kankesanthurei on 26 and 27 September 2020 in order to promote peace and reconciliation among communities. The train with Pirth Chanting accompanied 26 Buddhist dignitaries led by Ven. Ginnaliye Ayupala Thero and 400 devotees from all parts of the Island, and they were received by the Troops of Security Forces - Jaffna at the Kankesanthurei Railway Station at 2350 hours on 26 September 2020.

    The Buddhist delegation on their arrival visited to Thissa Viharaya – Kankesanthurei where troops of Security Forces Headquarters had arranged to offer morning and afternoon alms for them.

    Security Forces Headquarters – Jaffna organized a programme to distribute the donations brought by the devotees who came by train on 27 September 2020 at the Thalsewana Army Holiday Resort. Accordingly, Major General Senerath Bandara, Commander Security Forces - Jaffna took part at the programme to distribute 160 ration packs to needy people, 25 gift packs to pregnant mothers and 100 stationery sets for deserving students.

    The programme was conducted with the attendance of Religions Dignitaries, Army Officers and Troops and Residents in Kankesanthurei.

  • Foreign Student Officers Tour Security Forces- Jaffna Headquarters

    Student Officers and their family members of Foreign Armed Forces who are following the Staff Course No. 14 at the Defense Services Command and Staff College in Sri Lanka at present, paid a visit to Security Forces Headquarters - Jaffna on Sunday 30 August 2020. The Student Officers received a warm welcome from the Senior Staff of Security Forces Headquarters - Jaffna on behalf of the Commander Security Forces – Jaffna, Major General Senerath Bandara. These Officers arrived at the premises as a part of their Inland Tour, in which they were briefed on the Role and Responsibilities of Security Forces- Jaffna and Military Assistance in the post conflict scenario. In addition, the visitors enjoyed sightseeing within the Jaffna peninsula prior to their departure.

  • Newly Appointed Commander Security Forces (Jaffna) Pays his Maiden Visit to 52 Division

    Major General Senerath Bandara who assumed duties as the Commander Security Forces - Jaffna, paid his maiden field visit to 52 Division Headquarters on 12 August 2020.

    The Security Forces Commander was warmly welcomed by the General Officer Commanding 52 Division, and conducted a comprehensive briefing on area of responsibilities. The Security Forces Commander addressed the Brigade Commanders, Commanding Officers and troops under 52 Division.

  • Major General Senerath Bandara Assumes Duties as the Commander Security Forces – Jaffna

    Major General Senarath Bandara assumed duties as the Commander Security Forces - Jaffna on Sunday, 09 August 2020. A Guard of Honour was extended to the incoming Commander by the troops of the 12th Battalion the Gamunu Watch on arrival at the Security Forces Headquarters – Jaffna. He placed his signature in the first official document to mark assuming duty, amidst chanting of Seth Pirith in the presence of General Officers Commanding 51, 52 and 55 Divisions, All Brigade Commanders and Senior Staff Officers of Security Forces Headquarters – Jaffna.

    Religious dignitaries were also present in the office of the Commander Security Forces - Jaffna to bless him in his new appointment. He planted a sapling of Mango (Magnifera Indica) marking his appointment as the Commander Security Forces – Jaffna. Finally, he participated in the All Ranks tea party organized at the Other Ranks’ Dinning Hall of Security Forces Headquarters followed by the troops address

    Being a proud product of Vidyartha College Kandy, he joined the Regular Force of Sri Lanka Army as an Officer Cadet in 1986 and successfully completed the Basic Military Course at Sri Lanka Military Academy Diyatalawa. In 1986 he was commissioned in the rank of Second Lieutenant and was posted to the one of the most respected and reputed Infantry Regiments in Sri Lanka Army “The Gemunu Watch”, since then he counts over 34 years of service in the Sri Lanka Army.

    Major General Senarath Bandara is a battle hardened officer, injured three times during the war. As a highly decorated infantry officer, he had been awarded three times with the elite 'Rana Wickrama Paddakkama', two times with 'Rana Sura Paddakkama' and three times with 'Desha Putra Sammanaya' in recognition of the gallantry, invaluable and selfless dedication excelled in face of enemy in battle field. He has served in many command and staff appointments including Commanding Officer 5th Gemunu Watch, Commanding Officer Infantry Training Centre, Colonel General Staff 57 Division, Commander 572 Offensive Brigade during the peak of Humanitarian Operations, Commander 111 Brigade, Director Independent Directorate at Army Headquarters, General Officer Commanding 61 Infantry Division and 54 Infantry Division. Before being appointed to his present appointment he was serving as the Commander Security Forces - East.

The mega competition designed for enthusiastic youths to showcase their exclusive aesthetic talents while strengthening bonds of goodwill, reconciliation and understanding between members of Security Forces and the community.

  • The Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Switzerland Paid a Farewell Visits to Security Forces Headquarters Jaffna

    H.E. Mr. Hanspeter Mock the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Switzerland paid a farewell visit to Security Forces Headquarters – Jaffna, and met the Commander Security Forces – Jaffna, Major General Ruwan Wanigasooriya on Monday, 27 July 2020.

  • Punkudathive Housing Scheme Provides Shelter For Deserving Families

    Troops under Security Forces – Jaffna contributed their tireless effort to construct another housing scheme consisting of 25 houses to provide shelter for low-income families in Punkuduthive, Jaffna. The housing construction was done by 5th Engineer Services Regiment with support of the troops of 51 Division upon the directives of Major General Ruwan Wanigasooriya, Commander Security Forces – Jaffna. The entire project was funded by National Housing Development Authority of Ministry of Housing, Water Supply and Housing Facilitates and accordingly, Mr. L. Illangoven the Education Secretary Northern Province coordinated the funds and distribution of houses for selected deserving families in Jaffna Peninsula.

    The housing scheme was declared open by the Chief of Defence Staff, Commander of the Army and Head of the National Operation Centre for Prevention of COVID – 19 Outbreak (NOCPCO) Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva WWV RWP RSP VSV USP ndc psc on 18 July 2020 during the formal ceremony in which Hon. Mrs. P S M Charles Governor Northern Province participated as the Guest of Honour. The ceremony was organized under the supervision of Major General Lalith Rathnayake, General Officer Commanding 51 Division.
