Major General Jagath Kodithuwakku Assumes Duties as The Commander Security Force – Jaffna

Major General Jagath Kodithuwakku RWP RSP ndu assumed duties as the Commander Security Force - Jaffna on Monday, 19 July 2019. A Guard of Honour was extended to the incoming Commander by the troops of the 11th Battalion Sri Lanka Light Infantry at the Security Force Headquarters Jaffna. He placed his signature in the first official document to mark assuming duties, amidst chanting of Seth Pirith in the presence of General Officers Commanding 51, 52 and 55 Infantry Divisions, Commander Forward Maintain Area (North) and Senior Staff Officers of Security Force Headquarters Jaffna.

Religious dignitaries of Hindu, Catholic and Islam were also presented during the taking over formalities and blessed him for his new appointment. He planted a sapling of Mango (Magnifera Indica) marking his appointment as the Commander Security Force Jaffna. Later, a new commander attended the commemoration of fallen War Heroes of the Armed Forces who served under Security Force Headquarters Jaffna and floral tribute was offered to those heroes at the Palaly War Heroes' Monument with the participation of Senior Officers and Other Ranks of the Security Force Headquarters (Jaffna). Later, he addressed the Division Commanders, Brigade Commanders, Staff Officers, Commanding Officers of affiliated battalions and troops of Security Force Headquarters Jaffna.

Being a proud product of Aloysius College Galle, he joined the Regular Force of Sri Lanka Army as an Officer Cadet on 27 October 1986 and successfully completed Basic Military training at OTS-Mangala, Pakistan. On 23 July 1987, he was commissioned in the rank of Second Lieutenant and was posted to Sri Lanka Light Infantry, since then he counts over 34 years of service in the Sri Lanka Army.

During his long career he has served in numerous Command, Staff and Instructional appointments at various levels, which includes all possible command up to Infantry Division, General Staff of Field Formations, Army Headquarters, the Joint Services Headquarters, and instructor appointments at several Training Establishments.

Major General Jagath Kodithuwakku RWP RSP ndu commanded 532 Brigade, 512 Brigade and 66 Infantry Division, as an Instructor he served as Commandant at Infantry Training School, Minneriya and Army Training School, Maduruoya. Before being appointed as the Commander Security Force – Jaffna he performed duties as the Quarter Master General in Army Headquarters. Besides career development courses training in Sri Lanka, he has followed a number of foreign military training courses and has attended several seminars and conferences representing the country. Major General Jagath Kodithuwakku RWP RSP ndu is the successor to Major General Priyantha Perera RWP RSP ndu as the Commander of Security Force (Jaffna)
