High Commissioner of India for Sri Lanka Receives Updates from Jaffna Commander and Paid Tributes to Indian War Heroes at IPKF Monument in Palaly

HE Mr.Gopal Baglay, High Commissioner of India for Sri Lanka and entourage paid a visit to the Security Force Headquarters - Jaffna on Friday, 12 March 2021 during a visit to the peninsula. Major General Priyantha Perera, Commander Security Force-Jaffna welcomed them to the Security Force Headquarters - Jaffna.

During the cordial meeting, matters pertaining to the Civil - Military Coordination (CIMIC) and Reconciliation Process in the peninsula and the role of army in the process of sustainable peace and well-being of the community were also briefed by the Commander, Security Force - Jaffna. Further, he briefed the ongoing projects of construction of houses to the Indian delegation.

The High Commissioner, the Consul General of India in Jaffna, and First Secretary at High Commission of India in Sri Lanka and other officials expressed happiness over prevailing civil- military relations and underlined the importance of further strengthening of such bonds.

Before the meeting with the Commander Security force Jaffna, High Commissioner paid tributes in the memory of fallen heroes of the 10th Para Commando Regiment of Indian Army who sacrificed their lives during the Indian Peace Keeping Force (IPKF) operation “Operation Pawan” in Jaffna between year 1987 and 1989. The commemoration ceremony was held at the Indian Peace Keeping Force (IPKF) monument in Palaly.

High Commissioner of India to Sri Lanka, HE Mr.Gopal Baglay together with the Commander Security Force - Jaffna, Major General Priyantha Perera RWP RSP ndu placed floral wreaths at the monument in honour of the fallen heroes of Indian Peace Keeping Force.

Officials of both High Commission of India in Sri Lanka and the Consulate General of India in Jaffna, Senior Army Officers, and troops witnessed the commemoration.
