In parallel with the National War Heroes’ Memorial Day, Central Province was also celebrated the National War Heroes’ day on 19 May 2020 at the War Heroes Memorial in Mailapitiya with the participation of the Governor of Central Province, Mr Lalith U Gamage. The family members of the fallen war heroes also took part in the commemoration ceremony to pay the floral tribute.

Troops of 17 Engineers Services improved the facilities in the ward 36 in General Hospital, Kandy as an Intermediate ICU in order to treat the patients of Covid-19. On 10 May 2020 around 1000 hours this renovated Unit was handed over to the Director of the hospital.

A disinfection cabin which enables to sterilize personnel as well as objects within few seconds has been innovated by the Garrison Engineer’s Office as a precaution of controlling the threat of Covid -19. This was made following the instructions of the Commander Security Forces (Central), Major General W D C K Costa RSP USP. Further, it is intended to use it for the safety of medical staff at the quarantine centres.
