The view of responding to the sudden emergence of new positive cases of COVID -19 in relation to the 3rd wave while strengthening the capacity of the health care system, the government Building owned by Thondaman Cultural Centre - Ramboda, Nuwara Eliya was recently improvised as an Intermediate Care Center (ICC). It is expected to accommodate 275 patients (275-Beds) at any given time in addition to National Youth Corps - Kande-ela, Meepilimana (150-Beds) and Divisional Hospital - Walapane (87-Beds), National Institutes of Plantation Management- Bagawanthalawa (146-Beds) and Town Hall - Nuwara Eliya (500-Beds) ICCs in Nuwara Eliya District to meet the emerging health care demands of Central Province.

This ICC is expected to accommodate 260 patients (260-Beds) at any given time in addition to Bindunuwewa (220-Beds) and Kahagolla (240-Beds) ICCs in Badulla District to meet the emerging health care demands of UVA Province.

The commander Security Forces (Central) Major Genaral N R Lamahewage RWP RSP ndu made an inspection visit ln Nuwaraeliya on 18 May 2021. During the visit the Commander handed over the ICC at Nuwaraeliya stadium to the health authorities with the capacity of 500 beds to treat the patients in the event of any increase of COVID 19 patients in future. The construction was able to complete withing 7 days of time with the collaboration of the Army troops at 112 Infantry Brigade and 3 Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment , GA Nuwaraeliya - Mr Nandana Galaboda, RDHS - Dr M N S Manathunga, Director hospital Nuwraeliya - Dr W R M Mahendra Senevirathne, RE - Dr Madura Senevirathne, Mayor Nuwaraeliya - Mr Chandanalal Karunarathne Health Staff and the municipal council at Nuwaraeliya were also present at the occasion.

Giving prominence to religious observances, Major General N R Lamahewage RWP RSP ndu assumed the Office as the Commander Security Forces (Central) at an auspicious spell scheduled on 24 February 2021. All the senior officers, officers and other ranks of Security Force Headquarters (Central) and its under command Divisions, Brigades and Battalions welcomed the new Commander. The customary guard turnout and the parade were accorded by the troops of 23 Gajaba Regiment. The new Commander planted a Na tree sapling at the camp premises marking his taking over duties and participated in the all rank tea following his inaugural address to the troops of the headquarters.
