HE the President Gotabaya Rajapakse visited Haldummulla Divisional Secretariat area in Badulla district on 25 September 2020 to meet the villagers of Kumarathenna rural area. During this visit a house which was damaged due to an elephant attack was observed and instructed to build a new house with the assistance of the Sri Lanka Army.

In parallel with the 71st Army Day celebrations on 10 October 2020, the flag of Security Force Headquarters (Central) was hoisted by the Commander Security Forces (Central), Major General W D C K Costa RSP USP at the headquarters premises. Further, the Army song was sung with the participation of Officers and Other Ranks. Moreover, the message of the Army Day which was released by the Commander of the Army was also presented by the Commander SF (Cen).

Giving prominence to the religious activities, Sri Lanka Army, the guardians of the nation celebrate the forthcoming 71st Army Day which falls on 10th October 2020. As a precursory for the annual Flag Blessing Ceremony, the first religious ceremony was held at Sri Dalanda Maligawa on 28 September 2020. The Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General L H S C Silva WWV RWP RSP VSV USP ndc psc along with Senior Officers, Officers and Other Ranks participated in this religious ceremony.

His Excellency the President Gotabaya Rajapakse visited Haldummulla Divisional Secretariat area in the Badulla District in order to identify the concerns as well as immediate solutions for them. Further, the President instructed to develop this remote village sooner. As the first stage, the Army has been instructed to construct a new building at Kumarathenne Vidyalaya. Consequently, on 04 October 2020 the foundation stone was laid for the new building by the Commander Security Forces (Central), Major General W D C K Costa RSP USP at the Kumarathenna Vidyalaya premises.

Introducing of Teqball to the football players in Bandarawela, Diyatalawa, Haputale, Welimada areas was conducted at the ground of St Joseph College in Bandarawela on 03 October 2020. This event was organized on the direction as well as the participation of the Commander Security Forces (Central), Major General W D C K Costa RSP USP. A brief training session was also conducted in parallel with this event and sports items were also distributed among these sports clubs by the Commander SF (Central). The Senior Officers, Officers as well as the members of the Football Club and Merchant Association – Bandarawela participated in the event.

Orientation programmes for 50 000 graduates recruited to public sector were commenced on 14 September 2020 island-wide. In parallel with this ‘Saubhagyaye Dekma’ programme which is conducted under the direction of HE the President, the training establishments of Security Forces (Central) commenced the orientation training programmes under the supervision of the Commander Security Forces (Central), Major General W D C K Costa RSP USP. Accordingly, these programmes were successfully concluded and the closing address as well as the awarding of certificates also was conducted on 03 October 2020 at the respective training schools with the participation of the Commander Security Forces (Central).

Another newly constructed house was handed over to a selected low income family in Perakumpura, Ethimale on 15 September 2020. This was constructed under “Sirasa Niwasa” housing project which was launched by Sirasa Media Network. Mr R D Nandarathne received this house under the 2nd stage of the project. Further, the constructions work of the project was carried out by the troops of 18th Battalion the Gemunu Watch.

In parallel with the ‘Saubhagyaye Dekma’ programme which is conducted under the direction of HE the President, the training establishments of Security Forces (Central) also commenced the orientation training programmes for graduates on 14 September 2020. The Commander Security Forces (Central), Major General W D C K Costa RSP USP visited the training centres in the AOR on 15 September 2020. Moreover, Senior Officers, Officers and instructors of the under command training schools participated in this visit.
