"Today, we announced a ban on travel movements within the respective district and across regions, effective from 11.00 pm today to 0400 am tomorrow, and imposition of the same from 11.00 pm on Thursday (13) up until 4.00 am on Monday (17), considering the long weekend. The people, engaged in essential services, for example, health, military, water, electricity, those who want to reach hospitals, lorries carrying essential food supplies, etc will be allowed and all other unnecessary movements would not be allowed," so said General Shavendra Silva, Head, NOCPCO, Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army during a special meeting, he held this afternoon (12) at NOCPCO with stakeholders of the NOCPCO Task Force.

A ban on travel movements within the district and regions is to be imposed, effective from 11.00 pm on Thursday (13) up until 4.00 am on Monday (17) according to General Shavendra Silva, Head, NOCPCO, Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army who said people going exclusively for vaccination purposes and other essential services would however be exempted from this restriction.

Intending to reinforce the existing mechanism for island-wide vaccination programme against COVID-19, members of the Army, Navy and Air Force at the request of Health authorities are now manning or assisting inoculation centres in Nugegoda, Wellawatte, Maligawatte, Mattakkuliya, and Keththarama Colombo district and a few other places. General Shavendra Silva, Head NOCPCO, Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army has accordingly instructed tri service personnel to throw their weight behind the project. To meet with any contingency plan, 221 Brigade troops of the 22 Division in Trincomalee are giving finishing touches to the Army-improvised Intermediate Care Centre (ICC) with 115 beds at Nilaveli Samurdhi Training Centre to be in line with the directions given by Head of the NOCPCO, General Shavendra Silva, Chief of Defence staff and Commander of the Army after records confirmed a surge in numbers.

Hambantota-based 12 Division HQ of the Security Force HQ-Central in order to support national prevention efforts against COVID-19 transmission converted the Youth Training Center at Wellawaya into an Intermediate Care Centre (ICC) and formally handed it to Wellawaya Hospital on Saturday (8).

Urgent arrangements have been now made by Kandy-based 11 Division HQ in close consultation with Health authorities and District Secretariat to convert the Youth Centre at Gampola into an Intermediate Care Centre (ICC), in addition to already functional, Mahaweli National College of Education at Polgolla and Teachers’ College of Aesthetic Education, Giragama Intermediate Care Centres (ICCs).

As of this morning (12), a total of 2568 more persons were confirmed positive to COVID-19 in the past 24 hours. The majority of 606 are from Colombo District. Among them, were 53 from Colombo, 40 from Mulleriyawa, 36 from Piliyandala and 30 from Kottawa, states the National Operation Centre for Prevention of COVID-19 Outbreak (NOCPCO).
