A combined team of senior medical experts on Maternal and Child health, including Dr (Mrs) H.S. R Perera, Deputy Director General of Health Services, Dr (Mrs) Chithramalee de Silva, Director, Family Health Bureau, Prof Dr Shaman Rajindrajith, Consultant Paeditrician, Dr Surantha Perera, Consultant Paeditrician and Dr Sanath Lanerolle, President, Perinatal Society of Sri Lanka called on General Shavendra Silva, Head, NOCPCO, Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army on Monday (24) at the Army Headquarters and explored possibilities of getting the best care for pregnant women and children with special needs, amid looming COVID-19 threat.

The Commander Security Forces-Wanni, Major General Hemantha Bandara as the Overall Coordinator of Prevention of Covid - 19 in the District of Vavuniya presided the coordinating conference on Friday (21) at the District Secretariat Office in Vavuniya, together with the participation of District Secretary - Vavuniya Mr S M Saman Bandulasena, Deputy Inspector General - Vavuniya, Regional Director of Health Services and other Government officials.

As of this morning (25), a total of 2,971 more persons were confirmed positive to COVID-19 in the past 24 hours. One foreigner and 2,970 of those positive cases are locally-identified ones', including the majority of 605 from Colombo District, 472 from Kaluthara District, 395 from Gampaha District, and 1,498 from different other Districts, states the National Operation Centre for Prevention of COVID-19 Outbreak (NOCPCO).

A special discussion that took up a range of issues and concerns, related to ongoing COVID-19 prevention mechanism got underway this morning (24) at the NOCPCO office at Rajagiriya presided by General Shavendra Silva, Head of the NOCPCO, Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army at the Army HQ where Major General Sanjeewa Munasinghe, Secretary to Health Ministry, Dr Asela Gunawardena, Director General of Health Services, Dr Ananda Wijayawickrama, Consultant Physician National Institute Of Infectious Diseases (IDH), Prof. Manuj Weerasinghe, Faculty of Medicine at University of Colombo, Brigadier Chandana Arangalla, Brigadier Coordinator at NOCPCO and Colonel Savin Semage, Director Army Preventive Medicine were also present.

In order to further reinforce ongoing community security arrangements of the Police against the spread of COVID-19 virus, the Army on the instructions of General Shavendra Silva, Head of the National Operation Centre for Prevention of COVID-19 Outbreak (NOCPCO), Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army has deployed Army Quick Reaction Teams (QRTs), Special Force Rider Teams and troops of the Army Drone Battalion, together with infantry soldiers in mostly crowded areas in the western province.

Trincomalee district's Kiliveddy Hospital and 'Hameedia' Garment Factory in Sampoor are being converted into Covid 19 Intermediate Care Centres (ICC) by troops of the 222 Brigade, 223 Brigade, 15 Sri Lanka Light Infantry and 22 Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment battalions.
