    Army troops in close co-operation with Medical Officers of Health (MOHs) and health providers in respective regions throughout Saturday (29) successfully carried out COVID-19 vaccination programmes at government-organized mobile centres at Uyanwatta, Pawarasiri Niveraramaya, Ransegoda Sri Vijayaramaya and Kekanadura Rajamaha Viharaya in Matara District, Atanika Primary School, Elpitya Ananda College and Habarduwa Dharmika Vidyalaya in Galle District as instructed by General Shavendra Silva, Head of the National Operation Centre for Prevention of COVID-19 Outbreak (NOCPCO), Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army.

  • Emergency ICC Preparations at Vakarai Hospital Functional

    Troops of the 233 Brigade took steps to convert one ward at Vakarai Base Hospital to serve as an Intermediate Care Centre (ICC) in the event of any surge in the number of infectees of COVID-19 in the region. The ICC at Base Hospital Vakarai has begun operations since Saturday (22) onwards.

    As of this morning (29), a total of 2,850 more persons were confirmed positive to COVID-19 in the past 24 hours. 5 Sri Lankan expatriates and 2,845 of those positive cases are locally-identified ones, including the majority 512 from Kalutara District, 443 from Gampaha District, 281 from Colombo District and 1609 from different other Districts, states the National Operation Centre for Prevention of COVID-19 Outbreak (NOCPCO).

    A government building used by Thondaman Cultural Centre at Ramboda, Nuwara Eliya was recently improvised by combined 3 Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment and 19 Sri Lanka National Guard troops as an Intermediate Care Center (ICC) in order to accommodate 275 patients (275-Beds) at any given time in the event of any surge in COVID-19 patients.

    As of this morning (27), a total of 2,377 more persons were confirmed positive to COVID-19 in the past 24 hours. Two foreigners, 50 Sri Lankan expatriates and 2,325 of those positive cases are locally-identified ones, including the majority 573 from Colombo District, 530 from Gampaha District, 257 from Kandy District and 965 from different other Districts, states the National Operation Centre for Prevention of COVID-19 Outbreak (NOCPCO).

R Perera, Deputy Director General of Health Services, together with a few other specialists on Tuesday (25) undertook an inspection tour to the Army Seva Vanitha Unit-converted Seeduwa Intermediate Care Centre cum Hospital in order to assess feasibility on its functionality for maternal and child health in separate wards.
