Army Special Riders, Drone Battalion, Infantry Soldiers with Navy & Air Force Assist the Police for Monitoring Process

In order to further reinforce ongoing community security arrangements of the Police against the spread of COVID-19 virus, the Army on the instructions of General Shavendra Silva, Head of the National Operation Centre for Prevention of COVID-19 Outbreak (NOCPCO), Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army has deployed Army Quick Reaction Teams (QRTs), Special Force Rider Teams and troops of the Army Drone Battalion, together with infantry soldiers in mostly crowded areas in the western province.

Similarly, Navy and Air Force troops are also assisting the Police for strict imposition of travel bans and monitoring of movements of the public after enactment on quarantine regulations. Those special operations of the Army, Navy and Air Force were carried out on both days (22-23 May) in Colombo and its suburbs to support enactment of those law and order provisions.

The Army operations were conducted on the instructions of the Commander, Security Forces-West Major General Vikum Liyanage and under the close supervision of Major General Sujeewa Senerathyapa, General Officer Commanding 14 Division and Brigadier Nilantha Fernando, Commander 142 Brigade.
