As of this morning (29), a total of 1466 more persons were confirmed positive to COVID -19 in the past 24 hours. 15 Sri Lankan expatriates and 1451 of those positive cases are locally-identified ones, including the majority 228 from Colombo District, 209 from Gampaha District, 172 from Kurunegala District and 842 others from different Districts, states the National Operation Centre for Prevention of COVID-19 Outbreak (NOCPCO).

A panel of resource personnel, including General Shavendra Silva, Head of the National Operation Centre for Prevention of COVID-19 Outbreak (NOCPCO), Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army, Dr Asela Gunawardena, Medical Specialist and Director General of Health Services, Dr Ananda Wijewickrama, Consultant Physician, National Institute of Infectious Diseases (IDH), Prof Athula Sumathipala, Professor of Physicality School of Medicine Faculty of Health Sciences, Keele University took part in Wednesday (28) evening's ‘Aluth Parlimenthuwa’, TV feature in 'Derana' TV channel which largely focused on the spike in COVID-19 cases.

The Colombo Army Hospital by jabbing the first few doses to a representative group of Army personnel working in the frontline against transmission of COVID-19 in the country began its 2nd dose inoculation programme this morning (28) on par with the government's launch of the island-wide second dose of ‘AstraZeneca Covishield’ vaccination.
