FAMILIES OF THE OFFICERS OF VIJAYABAHU INFANTRY REGIMENT ENJOYED THRILLING EXPERIENCES IN ATTENDING A WHALES WATCHING TOUR AT MIRISSA.

On the request of the Colonel of the Regiment of the Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment whales watching tour was arranged for the families of the officers of Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment by the Sri Lanka Navy Base – Galle. Approximately 200 numbers of the family members of 60 officers enjoyed thrilling experiences of whales and hundreds of dolphins off Mirissa. Commander SF (WEST) and his family also shared joy by joining this exciting sea tour with the officers of the Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment.

VIR Celebrates Sinhala Hindu New New year

The Sinhala and Tamil New Year has become an important national festival for both Sinhala Buddhists and the Tamil Hindus of Sri Lanka. It is unique because it is not celebrated in any other country as a national festival. Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment also celebrated the new year festival and special thing was this time all customs related to Sinhala Hindu new year has done according to correct Auspicious (Nakath) Times at RHQVIR premises. Centre Commandant Brig WS Ariyasinghe RSP attended the event as the chief guest.

VIJAYABAHU HONOURED AS THE FIRST SRI LANKAN ARMY MALE SOLDIER TO BE EMPLOYED AS A STAFF OFFICER ASSISTANT AT A UN MISSION IN THE HISTORY

WO 1 N G Nuwarage RSP USP, newly appointed Regimental Sergeant Major of 9th Battalion the Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment returned to the country after a successful UN mission in South Sudan as a Staff Officer Assistant. WO I Nuwarage was honoured as the first Sri Lankan Army male soldier to be employed as a Staff Officer Assistant at a UN mission in the History. He was selected to represent the country out of 26 Warrant Officers and Senior Non Commissioned Officers of other arms by a board appointed by the Army Headquarters.

KAVESHA SELECTED TO REPRESENT THE COUNTRY

Kavesha Kasthuriarachchi, the son of late Major Janaka Kasthuriarachchi (6 VIR) has been selected to represent the Country at the peace building symposium scheduled for children in Pennsylvania - USA. The Project COMMON BOND, the most expansive and fastest growing Children programme, which is designed to unite teens from around the world that have lost their loved ones to terrorism. This Project has featured participants from 18 countries from around the world has been instrumental in developing the leadership qualities and peace building.

VIJAYABAHU OFFICERS ACHIEVED THE VICTORY OF INTER REGIMENT MARATHON CHAMPIONSHIP 2016.

Sri Lanka Army Officers introductory Marathon Run exclusively for Regimental officers, was held on Sunday the 6th at Meepe, amidst hundreds of senior officers which is a new addition to the Army routine of sports and a novel project proposed by Lieutenant General Crishanthe De Silva, Commander of the Army. The Marathon commenced from Meepe to Panagoda in two stages: 1. 9 miles for officers in the rank of 2nd Lt to Major. 2. 4 miles for Officers in the rank of Lt.Col to Brigadier.

THE 4TH GENERAL MEETING OF VIR EX SERVICEMEN ASSOCIATION HELD AT RHQVIR

The 4th Annual General meeting of Ex servicemen Association was held under the patronage of former President of the Vijayabahu Ex Servicemen Association Maj General (Retd) Jaliya Nanmuni, on 4th March 2016 at Regimental Headquarters Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment . More than 350 members attended this event and the Col Of the Regiment Maj Gen KC Gunawardena RWP USP ndu graced the occasion as the Chief Guest.
