Troops of the Security Forces – East were enlightened on ‘Human Immune Deficiency Virus and Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (HIV/AIDS)’ & ‘Suicide Prevention’ in a series of valuable lectures organized by the Directorate of Psychological Operations during 02 to 05 Dec 19. These awareness sessions were organized on a concept of the Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General L H S C Silva WWV RWP RSP VSV USP ndc psc along with the guidance of Commander Security Forces East, Major General H R N Fernando RSP ndc.

Troops of 241 Brigade as a part of their community engagement projects, offered a breakfast treat to 32 families displaced by floods in Nawakkadu, Alaiyadivembu Divisional Secretariat of Ampara District on Sunday (08) under the guidance of Commander, 241 Brigade Colonel WBJK Wimalaratne RWP RSP.

With the guidance of Commander Security Forces East, Major General HRN Fernando RSP ndc, troops of 222 Brigade and 5(V) Sri Lanka Artillery rushed to avert an imminent major catastrophe when they timely managed to repair the flood defence bund of Mahaweli River at Siththaru Samagipura which was facing a threat of bursting at any moment of the day as torrential rains continued.

Col PKWWMJSBW Pallekumbura RWP RSP psc assumed duties as the 10th Commander of 231 Brigade on 02 December 2019 at the Headquarters, 231 Brigade in Kallady.

A series of military and CIMIC-oriented programmes were organized from 8, 14, 22 and 27 November 2019 to celebrate the 6th anniversary of the 24 Division - Ampara. Anniversary celebrations were held giving prominence to religious functions and community welfare activities with the guidance of Major General J C Gamage ndc psc, General Officer Commanding 24 Division.

As per the initiative made by the Commander 22 Division Maj Gen A I Marasinghe RWP RSP, 500 students from 5 school in Serunuwara area under 222 Brigade AOR received school amenities for the year 2020 at the occasion held at the Pradeshiya Sabha Hall Serunuwara on 28 November 2019.The programme was conducted with the sponsorship of staff members of Sri Lanka Airlines.

Annual variety show of Mihindupura College" Trincomalee was held on 29 November 2019 at the college ground. Major General AI Marasinghe RWP RSP, Commander 22 Division graced the occasion as the Chief Guest.

To coincide with the programme to plant 40000 Jack saplings in the Eastern Province, and also in response to a request made by the Regional Project Manager – Mahaweli B Zone, Mr. Thushara Danthanarayana from the Commander Security Forces East, Major General Rasika Fernando, a tree planting campaign was launched at Aralaganvila Mahadamana Vidyalaya premises on 29 November 2019 with the participation of 100 troops representing 23 Division and its under command formations.

Directorate of Psychological Operations in the Army spearheading the concept of introducing meditation practices for Army personnel as per directions of the Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva held one more session on Thursday (28) at the ITC Minneriya auditorium with the blessings of Major General Rasika Fernando, Commander, Security Forces – East.

In response to a request made by the Chief incumbent of Unagalavehera Rajamaha Viharaya Ven. Girithale Gnanissara Thero from the Commander Security Forces (East), Major General Rasika Fernando the troops of Forward Maintenance Area (East) conducted a Shramadana Campaign at the temple premises on 27 November 2019.
