Major W G M R Mahawidana RSP took over duties as the Commanding Officer of 4 Mechanized Infantry on 11 th February 2019. The newly appointed Commanding Officer was greeted with the Guard Turnout at the entrance to the 4 Mechanized Infantry and the colourful military parade presented by the 4 Mechanized Infantry troops comprising with Armoured Personal Careers. After, officially taking over duties at the office with religious blessings, he planted a sapling to symbolize the acceptance of the duties. Thereafter, he addressed all Officers and Other Ranks of the Battalion and emphasized on carrying out the responsibilities by each individual to achieve the goals. Later he visited the camp area and inspected the routine works.

The celebration was commenced at Kataragama KiriVehera and Kataragama Devalaya on 19 January 2019 with the participation of Commander Mechanized Infantry Brigade, Brigadier LS Balachandra RSP, Overlooking Centre Commandant, Lieutenant Colonel KKS Perakum RWP RSP and other senior officers and Other Ranks.

The finals of the Mechanized Infantry Regiment Inter Battalion Boxing Championship held on 07 January 2019 at the Mechanized Infantry Regimental Centre. Lieutenant Colonel K K S Perakum RWP RSP, Overlooking Centre Commandant graced the occasion as the Chief Guest to witness the final tussle of the tournament. After the competitive contests for three days, 3 Mechanized Infantry won the championship of Inter Battalion Boxing tournament and 4 Mechanized Infantry became as runners up.
