The Corps of Engineer Services celebrated its 70th anniversary in a grand scale at the Corps of Engineer Services Regimental Headquarters at Panagoda on 10 January 2020. Brigadier R Ganegoda psc the Director Engineer Services and the Colonel Commandant CES graced the occasion as the Chief Guest and he was warmly welcomed by Colonel K M S Kumara the Centre Commandant CES at the main entrance of the Corps of Engineer Services Regimental Headquarters. After receiving the Guard Turnout accorded the Colonel Commandant, he placed floral tributes at the Corps of Engineer Services War Heroes Memorial in honour of fallen War Heroes. Thereafter, in accordance with military formalities, a colorful parade was held in salute of the Colonel Commandant.

The Corps of Engineer Services WOs' & Sgts' Mess “Guest Night” organized in parallel to 70th Anniversary Corps Day Celebrations was held at the Corps of Engineer Services Regimental Headquarters at Panagoda on 07 January 2020 with the participation of a large number of serving and retired members of the WOs’ & Sgts’ Mess. Brigadier R Ganegoda psc the Colonel Commandant CES and the Director Engineer Services graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. Colonel KMS Kumara the Centre Commandant CES, Colonel S N Kithulgoda the Deputy Centre Commandant CES, Colonel E A D K Edirisinghe the Colonel (Engineer Services) Directorate of Engineer Services , Other Senior Officers and Officers also participated in this event. The Corps' Sergeant Major WOI M G T K Wilson welcomed the Chief Guest and other invitees.

The Corps of Engineer Services annual War Heroes Commemoration Ceremony and the Pirith Chanting Ceremony were held at the Corps of Engineer Services Regimental Headquarters on 03 January 2020 under the guidance of Brigadier R Ganegoda psc the Colonel Commandant CES the Director Engineer Services who graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. Floral tributes were placed at the War Heroes Memorial Monument by the Colonel Commandant, Senior Officers and Family members of the Fallen War Heroes and Civil employees who sacrificed their lives during the war. Also valuable gifts packs were given away to the family members of the Fallen War Heroes. Later that day, the Pirith Ceremony preceded by a Colorful procession was held at Corps of Engineer Services Regimental Headquarters premises and it was followed by an almsgiving to Maha Sangha on the following day morning.

In order to inaugurate the first working day of the New Year – 2020, a simple ceremony was organized at Corps of Engineer Services Regimental Headquarters premises at Panagoda
All Officers and Other Ranks serving at the Corps of Engineer Services Regimental Centre and 1st Engineer Services assembled in front of the Regimental Headquarters building. Col K M S Kumara the Centre Commandant CES hoisted the National Flag and Colonel SN Kithulgoda USP, the Deputy Centre Commandant hoisted the Army Flag.

The Christmas Carols Organized by the 1st Corps of Engineer Services Regiment Headquarters in collaboration with the Corps of Engineer Services Seva Vanitha Branch was held at Corps of Engineer Services Regimental Headquarters premises at Panagoda on 28 December 2019 with the participation of large number of Officers, their Spouses and Children. Brigadier R Ganegoda psc the Colonel Commandant CES & the Director Engineer Services and Dr. Mrs Niroshani Ganegoda the Hon President of CES Seva Vanitha Branch participated in this event as the Chief Guests. Colonel K M S Kumara the Centre Commandant CES, Col S N Kithulgoda USP the Deputy Centre Commandant CES, Col E A D K Edirisinghe the Col ES and many CES Senior Officers, Officers, their spouses and children also participated in this Christmas event.

As another major event of the Buddhist religious activities conducted to coincide with the 70th Anniversary Celebrations of the Corps of Engineer Services that falls on 10 January 2020, under the guidance of Brigadier R Ganegoda psc the Colonel Commandant Corps of Engineer Services and the Director Engineer Services, the Officers and Other Ranks of the Corps of Engineer Services made a special Milk Rice offering to Anuradhapura Jaya Sri maha Bodhi on 19 December 2019 in order to invoke blessings on all members of the Corps.

The newly built Non-commissioned Officers' Mess and the Other Ranks Mess of 8th Engineer Services Regiment was opened on 24 October 2019 by Brigadier R Ganegoda psc, the Colonel Commandant Corps of Engineer Services and the Director Engineer Services upon the invitation of the Commanding Officer Lt Col N Wanigasinghe Lsc.

Brigadier R Ganegoda psc , the Director Engineer Services assumed duties as the 12th Colonel Commandant of the Corps of Engineer Services during a charming ceremony rich with military formalities on 10 August 2019 at the Corps of Engineer Services Regimental Headquarters.
Upon arrival, the new Colonel Commandant was warmly welcomed by Col K M S Kumara the Centre Commandant CES at the main entrance of Corps of Engineer Services Regimental Headquarters and accorded with a Guard Turnout. Thereafter, he laid a floral wreath at the War Heroes’ Monument to pay tribute to the fallen War Heroes.

The Corps of Engineer Services bade farewell to Major General H J S Gunawardena RSP VSV USP ndc psc the Commander Security Forces (Wanni) and the Colonel Commandant Sri Lanka Engineers upon his relinquishment of the appointment of Colonel Commandant Corps of Engineer Services on 9 August 2019.
