Engineer Services Central Workshop

After establishing the Works Services Ceylon Engineers on 10 January 1950, the Electrical & Mechanical Section was established under the Garrison Engineer Office, Panagoda on 01 June 1952 and Lt MBA Clazz was appointed as the first Electrical and Mechanical Officer. He was retired in the rank of Major.

On 20 July 1964 Capt HAS Wikcramasooriya CE and Capt TVL Ruberu CE were directly enlisted and appointed as the Electrical & Mechanical Officers at HQ Works Services Ceylon Engineers and the Garrison Engineer Office (Colombo). They were responsible for Electrical and Mechanical works in all Army Establishments.

In 1981 Capt WB Weerasooriya SLE was appointed as the Electrical & Mechanical Officer and WO II Jayarathna MA and 10 Recruits were attached to the Garrison Engineer Office (Panagoda) in order to commence an Electrical & Mechanical Workshop at Garrison Engineer Office, Panagoda Yard premises. For the first time repairing and maintenance of Generators and Water Pumps used in all Army Establishments was commenced in this year.

On 04 Nov 1989 Capt PP Atuluwage SLE was appointed as the first Officer Commanding Electrical & Mechanical Workshop. Later, in 1998 the Electrical and Mechanical Workshop was redesignated as the Engineer Services Electrical and Mechanical Workshop and relocated in Army Camp at Salawa, Kosgama. Maj KAPJ Ratnayake was appointed as the first Commandant of the Engineer Services Electrical and Mechanical Workshop and again in year 2010, the Engineer Services Electrical and Mechanical Workshop was redesignated as the Engineer Services Central Workshop. On 31 Oct 2012 a cornerstone was laid at Habarakada, Homagama in order to relocate the Engineer Services Central Workshop and presently the Workshop has been established at its new location.

Presently LT Col RMSK Rathnayake CES performs duties as the Commandant. The approved Unit Establishment is 6 Officers and 112 Other Ranks.
