Brigadier YKS Rangika is a proud alumnus of Royal College, Colombo and he excelled both in academics and in extracurricular activities.
He joined the Sri Lanka Army as a Direct enlisted Officer on 6 March 1997. He underwent basic military training at Logistic Command. Upon successfully completing his Officer Cadet training, he was commissioned as a Lieutenant and posted to the Engineer Services Regiment on 15 May 1997.
Throughout his distinguished military career, which spans over 28 years, Brigadier Y K S Rangika has held numerous significant command and staff appointments. These include serving as Adjutant at OC Troops - Jaffna, Garrison Engineer (Panagoda), Adjutant - 1 ESR, Adjutant - Engineer Services Trade School, Garrison Engineer (Mannar), Officer Commanding - 22 ESS, and Officer Instructor at Sri Lanka Military Academy and Second in Command - 1 ESR. He has also served as the Commanding Officer at 5 ESR and 17 ESR.
His other key appointments include Commandant of Engineer Services Trade School, Commandant of Engineer Services Central Workshop, Chief Instructor at Army School of Logistics, Trincomalee, Colonel Engineer services (Design and Planning), Centre Commandant of Corps of Engineer Services, Commandant of Army School of Logistics - Trincomalee and the Director Engineer Services.
Academically, Brigadier YKS Rangika is a graduate of the National Diploma in Engineering Sciences (NDES) in Mechanical Engineering, and holds a Bachelors of Technology degree in Civil Engineering. He also holds a Master’s degree in Military Technology and he is an Associate member of IESL and IEI as well. Moreover, he is a Chartered Engineer, which was obtained in India.
He has completed numerous courses, including the psc from Defence Services Command and Staff College Sri Lanka, Engineer Officer Work Procedure course in India, Engineer Officers Degree Engineering course in India and Defence Services Technical Staff Course in India.
In recognition of his bravery and service during counter-terrorist operations, Brigadier YKS Rangika has been awarded the East Humanitarian Operation Medal and North Humanitarian Operation Medal. In addition, he was awarded Purna Bhumi Padakkama, North and East Operations Medal, United Nations Medal and Foreign Service Medal.
Brigadier Y K S Rangika is married to Mrs. Aruni Chandrasekara, and they are blessed with a son.
Presently, Brigadier Y K S Rangika psc ptsc is holding the appointment of the Col Commandant of Corps of Engineer Services and the Director Management and Maintenance at Army Headquarters as well. Prior to these appointments, Brigadier Y K S Rangika served as the Director Engineer services at the Directorate of Engineer Services.
