Final Diners’ Club event of the Army War College Calendar for 2022 was held on 26 November at the Officers’ Mess where Major General DBSN Bothota RWP, RSP USP, psc, the Military Secretary and the Colonel Commandant of Sri Lanka Armoured Corps graced the event as the Guest Speaker. He spoke on a timely topic; ‘Officering; Challenges and Way Ahead’. 171 participants; comprising of student officers, Commandant, Chief Instructor and faculty members together with permanent staff got a unique opportunity of interacting with the Military Secretary who was the first commandant of the re-designated Army War College as well as a renowned personality in all forms of career development training of Sri Lanka Army.

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) conducted one day workshop on International Humanitarian Law (IHL) for the Student Officers of SCC and JCC on 25 October 2022 at the Army War College.

The ‘Hashers’ of Army War College comprising the Student Officers of Senior Command Course 6 and Junior Command Course 25, together with the Commandant and all officers, joined in the third ‘Hash Run’ in the year, conducted on Saturday the 22nd October 2022. The ‘Hash Run’ is customarily organized to facilitate the Student Officers to enhance the comradeship associated with a mixture of noncompetitive social events.

Colonel Paul Clayton MBE of the British Army, Defense Adviser of the British High Commission, Colombo paid a courtesy visit to Army War College, Buttala on 13 October 2022. Colonel Clayton was warmly welcomed by the Deputy Commandant and the Chief Instructor. Then, the DA met the Commandant, Brigadier YABM Yahampath RWP RSP ndu psc, at the Commandant’s office accompanied by the Senior Officers of the College where the DA was presented a plaque by the Commandant to mark the visit.

The Army War College joined the 73rd Army Day celebrations of Sri Lanka Army on 10th October 2022 from Buttala. A formal ceremony was held at the College headed by the Commandant Brigadier YABM Yahampath RWP RSP ndu psc along with Deputy Commandant, officers, other ranks and civilian staff. The charm yet solemn function commenced with the flag hoisting followed by singing the Army Song. The fallen war heroes were saluted with a two minutes silence by everyone and the massage of the Commander of the Army was read out.

Fulfilling a longstanding need of the Army War College (AWC); the Chief Instructor’s Chalet, constructed in keeping with ongoing development plan of AWC, was declared open at the auspicious time 0945 hrs on 07 October 2022 by the Commandant Army War College, Brigadier YABM Yahampath RWP RSP ndu psc. Soon after the opening, the Commandant also planted a sapling of ‘Jackfruit’ in the garden of the Chalet to make it an occasion to remember.

Directing Staff team won the finals of the Army War College Cricket Tournament of the 3rd trimester in 2022 held on 24th September. The team captained by Major Sudheera Dissanayake comprehensively beat the Permanent Staff team lead by Major Nuwan Hewage.

The Army War College commenced the third training cycle of the year 2022 on 29 August 2022. The College warmly welcomed 118 enthusiastic student officers through a charming opening ceremony. 85 officers including one foreign student officer from Bangladesh Army will follow the Junior Command Course 25 and 33 officers selected as potential battalion commanders will follow the Senior Command Course.

The Graduation Ceremony of the Second Trimester of the Army War College was held on 6 August 2022 at the College Auditorium. The Commandant of Army War College, Brigadier YABM Yahampath RWP RSP psc graced the occasion as the Chief Guest along with the Deputy Commandant, Chief Instructor, Senior Instructors, Head of the Academic Wing, members of the Directing Staff and Permanent Staff where the student officers of Senior Command Course 5, Junior Command Course 24 that included a foreign student officer from Bangladesh and Junior Staff Course 22 were awarded with certificates.
