ARMY WAR COLLEGE INVOKED BLESSINGS FOR THE PROCEEDINGS OF THE SECOND TRIMESTER

Student Officers following Career Development Courses in the second trimester of the Army War College (AWC) visited Kataragama on 11 May 2024 during the Exercise God King which was organized on the instructions of the Commandant AWC Major General Dinesh Udugama RWP RSP USP ndc psc.

Continuing with the long-standing practice of the AWC and with a view to invoke blessings for the second trimester, all Student Officers, faculty members and the administrative staff members together with Deputy Commandant, Chief Instructor, Senior Instructors and all the participants invoked the blessings of sacred ‘Kiriwehera’ by participating in a ‘Buddha Vandana and ‘Dhamma Serman’ administered by Rev Kebellaketiye Premarathna Thero, followed by the rituals at the shrine of God Katharagama.

The ‘Buddha Vandana programme’ held in front of the Kiriwehera pagoda precinct was conducted by Rev Kebellaketiye Premarathna Thero, Vice Principal of Katharagama President’s College and Residential Incumbent of Katharagama Kirivehera Rajamaha Viharaya blessed all the participants as well as, especially, all the heroes of the nation who sacrificed their limbs and lives were remembered and transferred merits during the proceedings of the Pooja Session.

During the Dhamma Sermon, Venerable priest explained the importance of practicing age-old rituals and Buddhist religious observances before starting studies, and he appreciated the pious notion of the College.

Further, as a motive of enhancing organizing skills and event management capabilities, AWC organizes these extracurricular activities to meet the exposure of the Student Offices in different capacities. Altogether 115 Student Officers belong to Senior Command Course (SCC 11), Junior Command Course (JCC 30) and Junior Staff Course (JSC 26) took part in the religious observances with the members of the Directing Staff of the respective courses and the members of the Administrative Staff.
