Annual Pirith chanting ceremony was organized by the Sri Lanka Army General Service Corps to evoke blessings to the Corps, officers and the soldiers and to commemorate the 11 anniversary of establishing the Sri Lanka Army General Service Corps. A felicitation ceremony was held to honour Major General W G L Padmakumara psc Hdmc who was promoted to the rank of Major General concurently with his retirement. The customary event was unfolded on 31 August 2017 at Regimental Headquarters’ premises, Panagoda with the participation of a large number of officers and Other Ranks. On behalf of the Colonel Commandant, all officers and Other Ranks of the Regiment, the Centre Commandant extended the warm wishes to the newly promoted Major General.

Major General Wajira Palihakkara assumed duties as the 9th Colonel Commandant of Sri Lanka Army General Service Corps amid religious blessings and cheerful gathering at the Regimental Centre on Thursday (31) August 2017. Newly appointed Colonel Commandant was warmly welcomed by the Col M W T C Mettananda, Centre Commandant and then honoured with the Guard Turnout presented by the troops of Regiment. Soon, charming and elegant parade was displayed at the Regimental Parade ground. Afterwards, Maj Gen Wajira Palihakkara placed his signature in the first official document to mark his assuming duty, amidst chanting of Seth Pirith in the presence of senior officers.

The Sri Lanka Army General Service Corps conducted a formal farewell dinner in honour of Major General Mihindukulasuriya USP psc Lsc, the outgoing Colonel Commandant of the Sri Lanka Army General Service Corps, at the Regimental Officers’ Mess, of Sri Lanka Light Infantry on 29 August 2017.
The arrival of the Chief Guest and the Lady at the Officers’ Mess was heralded by a fanfare. They were warmly welcomed by the incoming Colonel Commandant Major General Wajira Palihakkara and his Lady Kamani Palihakkara. The evening was glorified by the attendance of senior officers and their ladies and the Chief Guest shared a cheerful moment amidst the tune of the Army Band.
