Sri Lanka Army General Service Corps accorded farewell parade to Major General W R Palihakkara VSV USP, the Col Comdt, SLAGSC at his retirement on 14 June 2019 after serving 35 years of distinguished service in the Regular Force of the Sri Lanka Army.
Major General Wajira Palihakkara was enlisted to the Regular Force of the Sri Lanka Army on 05 March 1984 and subsequently promoted to the rank of Major General on 30 March 2017. During his 35 years of military service, he was awarded with Vishishta Seva Vibushanaya and Uttama Seva Padakkama for his exceptional, distinguished and loyal services. Adding glamour to the regiment, he was the first officer appointed as the acting Deputy Chief of Staff, AHQ in the history of SLAGSC. During the tenure as the Col Comdt, SLAGSC, improvements made in respect of the infrastructure facilities of under command battalions, trade school and the regimental centre where it has reached new heights facilitated with his dedicated commitment.
The commencement of the farewell ceremony held at RHQ Regimental Centre, was marked by guard turnout and floral tribute to the regimental war heroes' monument by the Col Comdt followed by the military parade. The first copy of "Abhiman Piyawara 1951 -2019", the magazine published to highlight the proud history of the regiment from 1951 to 2019 was presented to Col Comdt by the Chief Editor Brigadier Buwaneka Gunaratne at the all ranks tea organized by the officers and other ranks in the RHQ SLAGSC. Thereafter, the facility complex constructed adjoined to the WOs'/Sgts' Mess was declared open by the Col Comdt adding another construction for the series of development projects taken place during the tenure of Col Comdt Maj Gen Wajira Palihakkara.
The morning session of the day's proceedings concluded after posing for a group photograph of Council Members and Senior Officers with the Col Comdt. All Officers and Other Ranks attended for the ceremony were lined up in front of the RHQ SLAGSC building to pay their gratitude to outgoing Col Comdt Major General Wajira Palihakkara. The newly appointed Col Comdt Brigadier C K Handunmulla, all Council Members, Centre Comdt, RHQ SLAGSC, COs of Reg/Vol SLAGSC battalions, Senior Officers and Other Ranks including RSMs of SLAGSC battalions were present at the ceremony.
