    A visionary combined project that appeals to environmentally-conscious public and nature-lovers took root on Thursday (23) with the active contribution of Sri Lanka Army troops and the support of the 'Derana' Media Network along the Kadawatha-Matara Highway for the first time in its recent history where trees are to be planted on both sideways of the 154 km long road.

  • ‘POSON’ CELEBRATION AT SF (WEST)

    SFHQ (West) troops on the directions of Major General Sathyapriya Liyanage, Commander, Security Forces (West), together with the troops of the Army Buddhist Association, held a full-day ‘Sil’ observance programme at Panagoda Sri Bodhirajarama temple on the Poson Day (27 June). More than 2500 Buddhist devotees attended the event. Moreover, a gram Dansela was conducted in front of the Sri Bodhirajarama temple. Meanwhile, a mobile devotional songs (Bakthi Gee) float on the same day covering Panagoda Army Cantonment area, Godagama and Homagama.

  • WEST TROOPS SUPPORT 'YOGA DAY' PROGRAMMES

    Troops of the 14 Division under the Security Force Headquarters - West (SFHQ-West) on the directions of Major General Sathyapriya Liyanage, Commander, Security Forces - West took part in the programmes, held in connection with the International Yoga Day.

    The series of programmes at Colombo 7, Independence Square that commenced on June (23), to coincide with the International Yoga Day continued until Sunday (1).

  • ARMY TROOPS FIRST TO ARRIVE IN CYCLONE-AFFECTED AREA IN KULIYAPITIYA

    More than 40 Army personnel of the 143 and 532 Brigades of the 14 Division under the Security Force Headquarters - West (SFHQ-West) during small hours of Tuesday (19) rushed to Kuliyapitiya, Meegahakotuwa, Pahala Piduma and Pahatha Embawa areas in the Kuliyapitiya Divisional Secretariat in order to provide emergency services to people, affected by a powerful cyclonic wind that swept across the area.

  • West Troops Assist Construction Buddhist Pagoda in Hanwella

    Troops of the 10 (V) Sri Lanka National Guard (SLNG) of the 142 Brigade under the 14 Division of the of the Security Force Headquarters-West (SFHQ-West) offered their manpower for construction of the dagoba at Kudalawila Thunthana Buddhist Centre in Hanwella area. It was opened to the devotees on Saturday (9) during a special religious ceremony.
