TROOPS CONVERT AN ABANDONED BUILDING TO SERVE AS AN ICC

Troops of 1 Engineer Service Regiment under command to the Security Force HQ - West renovated a dilapidated Ward for COVID-19 patients in Lunawa hospital, Moratuwa which was abandoned and about to demolish.

On the directions of General Shavendra Silva, Head, NOCPCO, Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army the brainchild behind enhancing of the bed capacity and ICCs in line with the sudden increase of infected ones around the county, Major General Vikum Liyanage, Commander Security Forces - West took initiative of this conversion as a matter of priority.

This hospital serves as a transit location for COVID – 19 Infected women of the area before they were sent to ICCs for further treatments.

The newly renovated building was formally vested in the authorities on Tuesday (22) by Major General Vikum Liyanage, Commander Security Forces –West for patients as one more project and did not forget to inspect the facilities available for patients. During the visit with the view of facilitating patients, he directed the Commanding Officer of 1 Engineer Service Regiment to build a temporary waiting room for the COVID-19 infectees.

Hospital authorities during a brief discussion with the Commander SF – West, appreciated the commitment and proper coordination of troops with respective government authorities of the area in controlling COVID - 19.

Brigadier General Staff Brigadier RW Ponnamperuma RSP, Commander 142 Infantry Brigade, Brigadier DNJ Fernando RSP USP and the Commanding Officer 1 ESR accompanied the west commander during the visit.
