  • 141 INFANTRY BRIGADE ASSISTS IN CLEANING FLOOD-AFFECTED CEB WAREHOUSE

    On 3 December 2025, troops of the 141 Infantry Brigade extended their support to the Ceylon Electricity Board by cleaning the flood-affected warehouse at Opatha, Minuwangoda. Responding to an official request, the troops worked to remove debris and restore the facility to operational condition. Their timely intervention helped accelerate recovery efforts, ensuring the warehouse could resume essential services soon.

  • ARMY TROOPS SUPPORT URGENT BRIDGE RENOVATION AT THABBOWA

    A bridge along the Puttlam-Anuradhapura road at Thabbowa was severely damaged following the recent floods caused by adverse weather conditions. Acting under the direction of the Commander, 57 Infantry Division and with the coordination 143 Infantry Brigade troops of the 1 Sri Lanka National Guard (1 SLNG) were promptly deployed to assist the Road Development Authority (RDA) in the renovation of the collapsed structure. Their timely support ensured the continuation of essential repair work, helping to restore safe transportation and connectivity for the affected communities.

  • MEDICAL CAMPS PROVIDE VITAL CARE TO WEATHER-AFFECTED FAMILIES IN ARACHCHIKATTUWA

    Under the direction of Commander 57 Infantry Division and with the close supervision of Commander 143 Inf Bde, two medical camps were conducted in Arachchikattuwa to support civilians affected by the adverse weather conditions. One camp was held at Bopathgama Sri Bopath Viharaya, Bandarahena, providing treatment to 222 individuals, including 101 males and 121 females. The other medical camp, conducted at Sri Nagarajaaramaya Temple, treated 155 people, comprising 88 males and 67 females in the area. In addition to these medical services, 400 tables were distributed for “Mee Una”, further safeguarding affected communities.

  • Troops Restore Fiood-Affected st.Mary’s National School in Avissawella

    Request made by the Divisional Secretary of Sitawaka and the Principal of St. Mary's National School, Avissawella to the Commander of the 142 Infantry Brigade, on 2025/12/02, 01x25 troops belonging to Sector 10 were deployed to clean and restore the premises of St. Mary's National School, Avissawella, which had damaged and become dirty due to the flood situation.

  • 6 SLA TROOPS SUPPORT BRIDGE RENOVATION AT YAKKALA

    One Officer and fifteen Other Ranks of the 6 Sri Lanka Artillery are assisting civil authorities in the renovation of the Yakkala Bridge along the A1 Colombo–Kandy Road. The task, carried out within the 141 Infantry Brigade’s Area of Responsibility, aims to ensure the safety and smooth flow of traffic. The military’s support has strengthened ongoing restoration efforts, contributing to the timely completion of this essential infrastructure project.

    Troops of the 141 Infantry Brigade distributed nearly 3,500 meal packets, 3,000 water bottles, and essential sanitary items to civilians affected by the flood disaster in Gampaha and Ja-Ela on 1 December 2025. The timely humanitarian support ensured relief for struggling families, demonstrating the Brigade’s continued commitment to assisting communities during emergency situations.

  • TROOPS RESCUE VULNERABLE CIVILIANS AMID EMERGENCY IN ARANAYAKA

    Rescue operations conducted by the 8 Sri Lanka Singha Regiment (8 SLSR) and Commando troops led to the safe evacuation of four elderly individuals in the Narangala, Aranayaka area, who were immediately airlifted to hospital for treatment. Continuing their mission, 8 SLSR troops rescued an additional 15 distressed residents from nearby locations. While returning to base, the team encountered four more stranded civilians and promptly brought them to safety, demonstrating swift action and unwavering commitment to protecting lives during the emergency.

  • 144 INFANTRY BRIGADE DISTRIBUTES DRY RATIONS TO FLOOD RELIEF CENTRES

    Troops of the 144 Infantry Brigade distributed dry rations collected by the Divisional Secretariat Office, Kaduwela to flood-affected families at three relief centres on 2 December 2025. Supplies, including rice, spices, biscuits, baby food, noodles, dhal, salt, and sanitary items, were delivered to relief centres at Ranala Mahinda Pirivena, Nawagamuwa South Sanasa Hall, and Nawagamuwa Kande Viharaya, ensuring essential support to affected communities.

  • Troops Strengthen Kelani River Bunt to Prevent Flood Risk at Kelaniya Temple

    01st December 2025 16:05:51 Hours

    On 1 December 2025, at around 0540 hrs, an officer and five Other Ranks of 2 (V) Sri Lanka Light Infantry, together with 25 Other Ranks of the 1st Reconnaissance Regiment of the Sri Lanka Armoured Corps, were deployed to reinforce the river bunt near the Kelaniya Temple. The troops engaged in laying sandbags to prevent a potential breach and to help regulate the rising water level of the Kelani River. The Disaster Management Centre and the Irrigation Department supported the operation by supplying sand and polysack covers, ensuring the timely strengthening of the protective structure.

  • 8 SLLI TROOPS RESCUE FLOOD-TRAPPED RESIDENTS

    30th November 2025 16:39:19 Hours

    On 30 November 2025, troops of the 8 Sri Lanka Light Infantry carried out a large-scale rescue operation in Kalukodayawa, Malwana and Mabima where severe flooding had stranded numerous residents. A total of 91 individuals including 17 children were safely evacuated to secure locations. The swift and well-coordinated effort ensured the protection and well-being of all those affected by the rising waters.
