  • DISASTER RELIEF ACTION AT GAMPAHA DISTRICT

    Under the instructions of West Commander Major General SWM Fernando WWV RWP RSP VSV USP ndc psc, and the close supervision of Brigade Commander 141 Infantry Brigade, 6 Field Regiment of Sri Lanka Artillery and 8 Sri Lanka Light Infantry conducted rescue mission and provide disaster relief to the victims of flash floods in Gampaha district on 3 June 2024. This mission includes transporting of flood victims, providing foods and ensuring the continuation of the essential services in the area. There were 4 X 50 troops participated for the disaster relief action.

  • 14 INFANTRY DIVISION CONDUCTS DISASTER RELIEF OPERATIONS

    Under the direction of the Commander Security Forces (West) Major General SWM Fernando WWV RWP RSP VSV USP ndc psc, with the guidance of the General Officer Commanding 14 Infantry Division and the close supervision of the Commanders of 141, 142, 143, and 144 Infantry Brigades joined hands with the Divisional Secretariat, Disaster Management Center, and Police officials for evacuation, relief, and relocation of stranded people who were affected by floods due to the heavy rains and floods that affected the Colombo district since 01 June 2024.

  • 61 INFANTRY DIVISION TROOPS CONTRIBUTION FOR DISASTER RELIEF OPERATIONS

    Despite the recent heavy rains in the Kalutara, Galle, Matara, Ratnapura, and Kegalle Districts, Neluwa, Thawalama, Weliwitiya, Baddegama, Elpitiya, Thihagoda, Akuressa, Malimbada, Athuraliya, Morawaka, Kamburupitiya, Dehiowita, Idangoda Divisional Secretariat areas, which led to devastating floods on 1 June 2024, the resilience of the affected communities has been truly remarkable. The Army troops and various government agencies, including the District Secretariat and Disaster Management Centre, have been working tirelessly to provide humanitarian assistance and restore civil life in these areas.

  • CEREMONY OF LAYING THE FOUNDATION STONE FOR A NEWLY CONSTRUCTED HOUSE FOR A LOW-INCOME FAMILY

    As per the initiative of the Commander of the Army, the 3 (V) Gemunu Watch started constructing a new house for Mr. C.G. Ediriweera, a resident of Walauwaththa, Thudawa, Matara. The foundation stone laying ceremony was held on 26 April 2024 with the participation of Senior Staff Officer 613 Infantry Brigade, Lt. Col. P.G.D. Sampath RWP RSP, Commanding Officer of the 3 (V) Gemunu Watch, Major H.P.D.C. Thilakarathna, villagers, and with religious blessings.

  • CORNERSTONE CEREMONY FOR THE NEWLY CONSTRUCTED HOUSE FOR A LOW-INCOME FAMILY

    As per the initiative of the Commander of the Army, the 2 (V) Gemunu Watch began constructing a new house for Mr. M.H. Jayasiri, a resident of Walhena, Halgasmulla, Galle, on 24 April 2024. The cornerstone laying ceremony was held with the participation of Commander 613 Infantry Brigade, Brigadier S N M A B Arabepola RWP, Commanding Officer of the 2 (V) Gemunu Watch, Major S.M.L.L. De Silva, villagers, and with religious blessings.

  • BLOOD DONATION PROGRAMME AT 8 SRI LANKA LIGHT INFANTRY

    According to the visionary leadership of Commander 14 Infantry Division, Major General K A W N H Bandaranayake USP, and with the dedicated supervision and guidance of Commander 141 Infantry Brigade, Colonel R R de S Dharmawickrema RSP, the Commanding Officer and All Ranks of 8 Sri Lanka Light Infantry came together to organize a commendable Blood Donation Programme on the 27 May 2024 at 8 Sri Lanka Light Infantry premises. This event served as a testament to their commitment to humanitarian causes. In a display of selflessness and solidarity, 75 military personnel participated by donating blood, showcasing their unwavering support for the well-being of their community.

  • SRI LANKA ARTILLERY CLEARS FALLEN TREE IN VEYANGODA

    On 25 May 2024, at 1700 hrs, the proactive efforts of the troops from the 6th Field Regiment of Sri Lanka Artillery, under the command of the 141 Infantry Brigade and the 14 Infantry Division, played a significant role in providing humanitarian assistance. Due to adverse weather conditions, they efficiently cleared a fallen tree that was obstructing traffic along the Dedicated Economic Center road in Veyangoda. Such initiatives are crucial for ensuring a smooth transportation flow and aiding the local community. By swiftly addressing the blockage, the troops not only facilitated uninterrupted movement for vehicles and pedestrians but also demonstrated their commitment to supporting the well-being of the residents. Their actions highlight the importance of military involvement in civil support operations, especially during emergencies, ensuring public safety and maintaining essential services.
