Due to adverse weather conditions and strong winds, Rajawaka Madya Maha Vidyalaya in Balangoda sustained damage to its buildings and surroundings. In response, under the instructions of the Commander Security Forces (West) and the supervision of the General Officer Commanding, 61 Infantry Division, 1 X 15 military personnel from the 18th Battalion of the Sri Lanka National Guard were deployed to assist with recovery efforts and assigned to support the Disaster Management Centre (DMC), Balangoda. The team was actively engaged in removing fallen trees and clearing the school premises to restore safety and accessibility. Their swift and dedicated efforts greatly contributed to rehabilitating the school environment, ensuring minimal disruption to educational activities. Five individuals had accidentally fallen down a steep slope near Baker’s Bend along the Nonperiyal Road in the Belihuloya area. Demonstrating outstanding professionalism and commitment to public safety, the soldiers navigated challenging and treacherous terrain to reach the victims. Their prompt response and coordinated efforts ensured the safe recovery of all five individuals, who were later handed over to medical authorities for further attention. This operation highlighted the readiness and dedication of Sri Lanka Army troops in providing vital assistance during civilian emergencies. The actions of Regiment Centre Gemunu Watch and 11th Gemunu Watch reaffirm their commitment to safeguarding lives and supporting the community during unforeseen crises.

Their timely intervention played a crucial role in minimizing damage to the environment and protecting local communities. The operation highlighted the 18 SLNG unwavering dedication to environmental conservation and disaster response. Their courageous efforts underscore the vital role of military personnel in supporting civil authorities during emergencies. The 18 SLNG troops remain on standby for further assistance if needed, continuing their mission of serving and safeguarding the nation in times of crisis.

In line with World Environment Day on 05 June 2025, a series of tree planting programs were conducted under the guidance of the Commander, Security Forces Headquarters (West), and as per the instructions of the General Officer Commanding, 61 Infantry Division, Major General K T P De Silva RSP ndc psc. These environmentally focused initiatives were organized by troops of the 572 Infantry Brigade, the 11th Gemunu Watch, and the 18th Sri Lanka National Guard. A total 06 x 75 of soldiers actively participated in the programs, demonstrating their commitment to environmental conservation and sustainability. The efforts aimed to enhance green cover and promote ecological awareness in alignment with national and global environmental goals which operate under the command of the 572 Infantry Brigade.
