HISTORY
Task Force 8 was raised on 10 Dec. TF was assigned to round up LTTE tactical and logistic components established in LTTE control area at Puthukkudiyiruppu during the final phase of Humanitarian Operation. Soon after liberation of Mullaitivu District from the LTTE, the TF was upgraded as 68 Infantry Division under the SFHQ (MLT) on 10 Dec 2010. As of now 68 Infantry Division is consist of 2 x Brigades with 1 x Regular and 3 x Volunteer Battalions and covers the area approximately 317 Sq Kms. At the time of rising, 68 Infantry Division was formed as a Task Force-8 under 53 Division on 09 February 2009. This was to facilitate other established Divisions during Humanitarian Operation to conduct advance smoothly. Presently 68 Infantry Division carries out duties to uplift the living standards of the people and assist to maintain law and order in the area. At present Major General RW Ponnamperuma RSP psc is the General Officer Commanding of 68 Infantry division.
