HISTORY OF 65 INFANTRY DIVISION
As per the directions issued by the AHQ the Task Force 5 and two U/C Bdes namely 651 and 652 Bdes were raised on 15 Dec 2008 under SF HQ (W) in order to carryout belly security duties of liberated areas. Initially the Task Force HQ was established at Mallavi School on 24 Dec 2008 and later the Task Force HQ was U/C to SF HQ (KLN) from 01 July 2009. Further Task Force 5 shifted to the Thunukkai on 14 Jan 2009. There were 17 x Inf Bns carried out duties under Task Force 5 until 10 Sep 2009. The Task Force 5 was upgraded and renamed as 65 Div on 18 Sep 2009. HQ 554 Bde was re-designated as 653 Bde and U/C to 65 Div from 07 Dec 2009. Later, HQ 65 Div was shifted to the present loc at Alankulam on 06 May 2010 as the first Model Camp constructed using Pre-Fab buildings and it was inaugurated by his Excellency the President of the Sri Lanka Gotabaya Rajapakshe during his tenure as the former Secretary to the Ministry of Defence. Presently 65 Inf Div U/C to SF HQ (W) from 04 Dec 2020. At present, there are 03 x Bdes and 04 x Bns affiliated to this Inf Div and 11 x GOCs have Commanded this Inf Div up to now.
