The construction of a bathroom for a deserving army civil servant, Mr. SA Kumarasiri of 9 Field Engineer Regiment commenced on 25 May 2026 as a welfare initiative of the Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers Seva Vanitha Branch (SLE SVB), considering the difficult living conditions faced by his family. The assistance was mainly provided due to the medical condition of his wife, who is suffering from severe spinal problems, making the use of the existing sanitary facilities extremely difficult.
Recognizing the urgent requirement and hardships experienced by the family, instructions were given by the President of the SLE SVB, Mrs. Geetha Wickramanayake and the Chief Field Engineer of Sri Lanka Army and the Colonel Commandant of Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers, Major General CD Wickramanayake WV RSP ndc, to commence the construction of a safe and convenient bathroom with essential facilities in order to improve the family’s day-today living conditions and hygiene standards.
Furthering their commitment to this noble cause, the President of the SLE SVB, Mrs. Geetha Wickramanayake, along with Major General CD Wickramanayake WV RSP ndc, visited the location on 28 May 2026. The visit was aimed at closely supervising the ongoing construction work to ensure its timely and high-quality completion, while also personally looking into the health condition and wellbeing of Mr. SA Kumarasiri’s ailing wife.
This welfare project reflects the continued commitment of the Sri Lanka Army towards the well-being of both military and civil staff members by extending timely assistance to families in need. The initiative was carried out with the support and coordination of 9 Field Engineer Regiment.
