The Regimental Centre of the Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers has played host to a significant milestone in bilateral military relations on 24 May 2026, conducting a formal appreciation ceremony to honor the invited Indian Army Engineers Task Force Team. The event highlighted the deep-rooted professional respect and technical cooperation that continues to define the relationship between the engineering divisions of the two neighboring nations, especially during the resilience against the cyclone “Ditwah” during the year 2025.
The ceremony began with the arrival of the Indian delegation at the Regimental Centre. Represented by Lieutenant Colonel Anuj Singh, Officer Commanding of the Engineer Task Force, the team was received with full military honors. The welcoming party was led by the highest dignitary of the Corps, Major General C D Wickramanayake WV RSP ndc, Chief Field Engineer of the Sri Lanka Army and Colonel Commandant of the Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers
The formal proceedings commenced with an insightful welcome address by the Commanding Officer of the 14 Chemical Biological Radiological Nuclear and Explosive Response Regiment (CBRNE), Lt Col K W K R Jayasinghe RSP psc SLE with a speech emphasized the strategic importance of the Task Force’s contributions and the value of shared expertise.
Following the address, the spotlight turned to the presentation of awards. In a gesture of appreciation for their service and collaboration, Commemorative Mementos were exchanged to symbolize lasting friendship and a letter of appreciation were presented by Major General C D Wickramanayake WV RSP ndc to the Officer Commanding of the Engineer Task Force of the Indian Army.
Before the formal segment concluded, the officers gathered for a group photograph. This image stands as a visual testament to the comradeship and the "esprit de corps" that exists between the Sri Lankan and Indian military engineering fraternities.
The event transitioned from formal protocols to a relaxed social atmosphere with a tea party. This allowed officers from both nations to engage in informal dialogue and strengthen personal ties before the Indian Task Force’s final departure. The visit concludes another successful chapter in the long-standing history of cooperation between the sappers of the two nations.
