Major General D K S K Dolage USP nps psc, Chief of Staff of the Sri Lanka Army and Colonel Commandant of the Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers, paid an official visit to the 7 Field Engineer Regiment at Minneriya and the Plant Engineer Brigade at Kantale on 15 February 2026.
The visit commenced at the 7 Field Engineer Regiment, where the Colonel Commandant was accorded a dignified Drive Pass at the main entrance and warmly received by Lieutenant Colonel M A P Abeywickrama psc SLE, the Commanding Officer. The ceremonial reception reflected the pride and discipline synonymous with the Sappers.
Addressing the troops, the Colonel Commandant commended the exemplary and selfless role played by the Sappers during the recent DITWAH cyclone and the subsequent post-disaster relief operations. He lauded their unwavering commitment, courage, and technical proficiency displayed in the face of adversity, which once again reaffirmed the Corps’ steadfast dedication to the nation. He urged all ranks to preserve and further strengthen this enduring spirit of teamwork, discipline, and professionalism that defines the Sapper identity.
Emphasising the importance of holistic development, he encouraged officers and soldiers alike to pursue excellence not only in their professional responsibilities but also in their personal growth, underscoring that a balanced and resilient individual is the foundation of a formidable fighting force.
The formal proceedings were followed by an All Ranks Tea at the Sappers’ Mess, fostering an atmosphere of camaraderie and open dialogue. Officers and soldiers engaged cordially with the Colonel Commandant, sharing experiences, insights, and aspirations in a constructive and inspiring setting.
Thereafter, the Colonel Commandant penned a complimentary note in the Visitors’ Book at the Officers’ Mess and posed for a group photograph with the officers, marking the successful conclusion of his official visit to the 7 Field Engineer Regiment.
Subsequently, the Colonel Commandant proceeded to the Plant Engineer Brigade at Kantale, where he was accorded a Drive Pass and warmly welcomed by Brigadier K A S J Kodithuwakku USP ptsc, Commander Plant Engineer Brigade.

In his address, the Colonel Commandant commended the Brigade’s steadfast dedication to both military and civil plant engineering projects, highlighting their pivotal role in national development and operational readiness. He further praised their technical expertise, resilience, and selfless service rendered during the recent DITWAH cyclone, which significantly contributed to safeguarding communities and restoring normalcy.
