The Regimental Headquarters of the Corps of Engineer Services proudly hosted a formal farewell ceremony on 20th June 2025 in honour of Major General Lanka Amarapala RWP RSP ndc psc, Deputy Chief of Staff of the Sri Lanka Army and Colonel Commandant of the Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers, as he prepares to retire from active service.
Upon his arrival at the Headquarters, the esteemed Senior Officer was warmly received by Major General KAN Rasika Kumara ndc psc, the Colonel Commandant of the Corps of Engineer Services. In keeping with military tradition and honour, a Guard Turnout was presented, followed by a solemn floral tribute at the monument dedicated to fallen war heroes, reflecting the Corps’ enduring respect for those who made the ultimate sacrifice.
A Guard of Honour was then accorded to Major General Lanka Amarapala, recognizing his exemplary leadership and dedicated service, particularly his tenure as the 14th Colonel Commandant of CES. Following the ceremonial honours, he addressed the troops with a heartfelt message, sharing reflections on his journey, expressing gratitude for the exceptional farewell organised by the Corps, and acknowledging the unwavering support of all ranks throughout his service. Major General Lanka emphasized the responsibilities of every military individual in supporting the government’s “Clean Sri Lanka” initiative, and passionately stated that with teamwork, discipline, and unity, the Corps of Engineer Services is capable of achieving even greater milestones in the future. His words served as both a tribute and a powerful motivation to the CES family.An all-ranks tea was held, fostering camaraderie and providing the Chief Guest an opportunity to interact with all members of the Corps.
Later in the evening, a farewell dinner was hosted at the Officers’ Mess of the Regimental Headquarters. Welcoming the Chief Guest, Major General KAN Rasika Kumara delivered a moving address, highlighting Major General Lanka Amarapala’s invaluable contributions to the Sri Lanka Army and CES. “The service rendered by you, Sir, is beyond words. You are a pillar of strength to the Army,” he stated.
In his own address, Major General Lanka Amarapala expressed his sincere appreciation to the Colonel Commandant CES, the Centre Commandant of CES, and all officers for organizing the day’s events in accordance with Army customs. He described the farewell as an emotional moment and extended heartfelt thanks for the unwavering support he received throughout his tenure and beyond. He encouraged all officers to uphold integrity, pursue the right path, and remain committed to excellence, assuring them that success would naturally follow.
To commemorate this significant occasion, the outgoing senior officer signed the Visitors’ Book at the Officers’ Mess.
The day’s proceedings were marked by deep respect, pride, and a strong sense of enduring connection between Major General Lanka Amarapala and the Corps of Engineer Services—honouring a distinguished military career that has left a lasting legacy.
