The familiarization training program for Explosive Ordnance Disposal equipment, generously donated by the People's Republic of China, concluded with a formal closing ceremony on October 28. This initiative successfully enhanced the EOD capabilities of the Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers, while also strengthening bilateral cooperation between Sri Lanka and China.
Major General Lanka Amarapala RWP RSP ndc psc, Commander of Security Forces (West) and Colonel Commandant of the Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers graced the certificate awarding ceremony as the Chief Guest. In his closing remarks, Major General Lanaka Amarapala expressed deep appreciation to the People's Republic of China for the generous donation of EOD equipment valued at 32 million Sri Lanka Rupees. He also commended China's commitment to supporting the operational training of the EOD robots. Additionally, he emphasized the importance of sharing the knowledge and skills gained during the program with other engineers to boost the Corps' operational readiness and ensure national security.
The closing ceremony included live demonstrations of the REOD 4000 and REOD 400 robots, showcasing the participants' mastery of techniques such as explosive ordnance disposal and obstacle navigation. The event highlighted the practical skills acquired through the training, essential for maintaining safety in complex environments.
Senior representatives from the Embassy of the People's Republic of China, including Senior Colonel Zhou Bo, Defence Attaché, Colonel Gao Bin, Deputy Defence Attaché, and Colonel Yuan Wei, the team leader of the EOD Robot Operational Team, participated in the ceremony. Representatives from Beijing Jingpin Tezhuang Technology Company, the manufacturer of the donated equipment, also expressed their satisfaction with the collaborative training efforts and acknowledged the dedication of all involved personnel.
The training program was carried out under the direction of Major General T C Peiris RSP USP, Chief Field Engineer, and Brigadier S P G Gamage RWP RSP USP, General Officer Commanding of Engineer Division. Colonel J A C S Jagoda psc, Commandant (Overlooking) of the Sri Lanka School of Military Engineering, supervised the training sessions closely. Throughout the program, participants engaged in practical, hands-on training with the EOD equipment, refining their technical skills and developing confidence in their operational use. The training aimed to equip personnel with the expertise needed to effectively address evolving explosive threats, fostering a safer and more secure environment.
In total, 20 officers and 42 other ranks completed the program, significantly enhancing their capacity to manage future challenges. Their newly acquired expertise will contribute to strengthening regional stability and the Corps' operational readiness in safeguarding the nation.
